I have been having a hard time finding smoeone to manage my property (yes, maybe I should have sold it) so I'd thought I'd ask here if any of you would be interested.

What's involved?

At a minimum I require the following:

  • You plan to live in Waterloo for at least 2 years
  • You will find tenants once a year and sign them to a year lease
  • You will inspect the house and property once every couple months
  • You will deposit rent cheques at the bank for me

If you're more ambitious you can do:

  • Snow clearing
  • Lawn mowing
  • Handle tenant phone calls about repairs and possibly tackle the small jobs

If you're not ambitious that's fine since I can contract out those ambitious items.

If you are serious please send me an email at mail@mattgoyer.com and we can explore the possibility of working together.

I know a lot of you are either going through co-op now or looking for fulltime work. This is for you.

Joel on Software, Getting Your Résumé Read

Much as I'd love to be able to consider everyone on their merits instead of on superficial résumé stuff, it's just not realistic, and there's just no reason a college graduate can't get this right.

Joel also wrote another excellent article that you should read: The Guerrilla Guide to Interviewing.

What would I add to Joel's advice about getting an interview?

Don't depend on emailing your resume. When I applied to Microsoft last fall I dropped my resume in the bin on campus but more importantly I had a full time employee submit my resume into their system, I had a co-op who was returning full time to forward my resume to Waterloo's recruiter, and I think most importantly, I waited until I was the last person at an info session to sell myself one on one to the recruiter.
