So life has been very busy and I just haven't had the opportunity to blog about what happened last Wednesday... So here it is:

Earlier in the summer Natalie had told me that Tori Amos was to be playing some time this fall in Toronto. Not wanting to miss out on the show I looked it up on the web and low and behold she was playing on the 19th! Of course the show was sold out but I checked Ticketmaster to see if they had any last minute tickets and surprise, they didn't. I checked E-Bay who had two sets of tickets but they were overpriced. But still not having found a ticket on Wednesday I still wanted to go. Natalie too was excited to go and told me she thought Rufus Wainwright was opening. I checked his site and indeed he was. So off we were to Toronto. We got there a little late because of a car re-fueling fiasco but we did find someone who was selling two tickets. The person whose tickets they were couldn't make it and he just didn't want to see them go to waste. And guess what, they were second row! We forked over the cash, got the tickets and went in. After going to the bathroom Natalie checked on the tickets and realized that Tori Amos' name wasn't on the ticket. Instead they said Sigur Ros. Interesting since the t-shirts being sold had that name on them as well. Maybe we had been scammed? The opening act ended up cancelling so we went outside and saw on the board outside Massey Hall that Tori Amos was in fact playing on OCTOBER the 19th and that Sigur Ros was playing on SEPTEMBER the 19th.

Natalie was of course devestated. For a brief few minutes she believed we had second row tickets bought at face value for Tori Amos.

We picked up the local weeklies to find out who Sigor Ros was. The information was sparse so I called John who checked out their website. Turns out they're Icelandic, accept voluntary payments via PayPal, and none of their songs are in english. He recommended trying to re-sell the tickets.

But we went anyway despite his recommendation and despite Natalie's disappointment and belief that we didn't fit in.

How I mis-read so many websites (Tori Amos', Rufus Wainwright's, Ticketmasters, the Ebay sales...) is beyond me .

The show was interesting. The band didn't speak once. Natalie believe the made music instead of playing. They were indeed weird. At the end they received a standing ovation. The house lights then came on. What no encore? But wait! They came back on stage. Bowed. Looked around awkwardly and left. But still more clapping! So they came out again. Bowed some more. Looked very awkward and left again. Still more clapping! This was a serious standing ovation. But there was to be no encore as the stage hands came on and started to remove the equipment. Very weird but a fitting end to a weird evening.

Right now I'm on a 767 enroute to Toronto from Montreal. It's one big plane.

But anyhow, I got to the Portland Jetport 2 hours early this morning and there was virutally no line at the security line and get this. I didn't check in till less than 10 minutes before my flight! How come they denied me last night with only minutes to go but yet seem to make it a common practice to only check-in within minutes of the flight?

I killed the two hour wait watching Blow which I downloaded last night off the web with Morpheous. It was about a 400 meg download which is pretty small and of course the quality was pretty bad. It appeared to be one of those theatre-rips that I saw with Jam so often in Nepal. (A theatre-rip is when someone goes to the movies and tapes the show with their camcorder). I had expected to find dvd rips but didn't.
