Daypop:

Daypop is a current events search engine. Daypop crawls the living web at least once a day to bring you the latest information relevant to your searches.

The living web is composed of sites that update on a daily basis: newspapers, online magazines, and weblogs. Weblogs are a new form of personal journalism. Think of them as opinion columns or slices of life. Newspapers give you the international headlines and weblogs give you both a subjective view of current events and a personal view of the author's life.

Next weekend I'm flying down to Maine with the hopes that air travel has resumed somewhat normal operations. Of course from what I read in the paper some people will not be flying again any time soon. This sentiment has been reflected in the stock prices of many airlines.

The papers talk about increased security, no more e-tickets (which I almost exclusively fly on b/c I seldom book flights in advance), no more electronic-kiosk check-in (which I love), and sky marshals. But news flash folks. All you're going to end up doing is inconviencing lots of people and costing the world a bundle in terms of lost productivity (how early will I have to leave for the airport now?? there goes my 30 minute rule).

Why do I think this is all a waste? Because what is to stop the crazies from buying their own planes directly from Bombardier or some failing airline, loading them up with jet fuel, explosives, and crashing them into the nearest symbol of American freedom/capitalism/greed? That's right, absolutely nothing.

Are we going to put restrictions on buying big things which could be potentially used to crash into other big things? Where do we draw the line? How many civil liberities need to be infringed upon to make our world feel safe when in fact it never will be?

While eradicating terrorism would be nice, we all know it is a war we'll never win as there is very little anyone can do against a group of people who are willing to die for their cause.

So what can we do? Send money (yup, that's right, I used my competitors payment system) to help those in need. We also need to examine why these attacks happened. People don't launch attacks like the ones experienced last week for no reason.

Let us not stoop to the level of UN/Nato/G8/US sponsored terrorism. Whether its kamikaze planes or bombs, war is terrorism and terrorism is wrong.
