I got bumped

I was even 'early' (I try to be at the airport 30 minutes before departure. This time I was 60 minutes early!).

The flight was not just a little oversold, it was completely oversold. After the plane left there was still a lounge full of people left over. While I was early, it looked like everyone who got bumped arrived even earlier because I was one of the last people to be called up to get my 'compensation'. $300 travel voucher and one meal is all I get for being delayed 5 hours. Other overbooked people are getting the same compensation but will only be delayed 2 hours if they get put on the also oversold 7pm flight. I think that if you get bumped twice you should get double the compensation but that's not how Air Canada sees it.

Now normally a little bumping wouldn't be such a big deal but this is a short vacation and it will probably put a damper on my first day on the slopes. Instead of getting a good night's sleep I'm now arriving into Calgary at midnight, I'll then have to arrange some sort of transfer to Banff (instead of having my dad pick me up as planned) which means I'll probably be getting into Banff around 2am and I'll have to be up by about 7:30am to pick skis by 8 to hit the slopes. Plus factor in some 'jetlag' and this is clearly not ideal.

In an ideal world, Air Canada would realize they're oversold and attempt to get in touch with people before they leave home. I wouldn't mind an extra 5 hours sitting around in Waterloo with $300 more in my pocket but 5 hours sitting around Terminal 2 is not my idea of fun. Now it would be more fun if there was Internet, but alas, while some airlines have wireless broadband in flight Air Canada doesn't even have electrical outlets in their departure lounges.

Yes, I know, I shouldn't bitch since you're stuck in Waterloo but whatever, I'm bitching.

My Nokia 8210 is fading fast. Does anyone have a similar sized phone kicking around that they don't need anymore? (I'm too cheap to go get a Sony-Ericsson T68i).
