I keep nagging John for some guest editorials. In the meantime we have to depend on Reuters article, Music Label Services' Debut Lackluster.
Reviewers have criticized Pressplay and MusicNet for offering fewer songs and fewer features than the illegal services. Furthermore, the services won't be available to consumers outside the U.S. for months. The article also mentions that KaZaA, Morpheus, Music City, and Audiogalaxy have more than three million downloads a week compared to the legit RealOne which was only downloaded 7,506 times during the past week. The labels also believe that 'some music fans are wary of downloading files from unauthorized file-swapping sources as they may contain computer viruses' which makes absolutely no sense.
A ' NetPD report revealed that 2.5 million copyrighted and generic files traded hands in a six-minute period'. I wonder what that tells us of the price point for music :) (it certainly ain't $0.10 a song (which is what RealOne works out to be)).
