I saw something somewhere about how it's better to release 'stuff' in a recession but I didn't get the chance to read it because my surfing is so schizo. Now I'd like to read it but can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. Since Google is already tracking all my surfing because I'm using the Google Toolbar it'd be really nice if they'd let me Google through my web history. So before I forget. A link to something else I don't want to forget
Update: Darryl tells me I say it on Pho and so here it is: Bad times spawn great start-ups To everyone who volunteered as a beta tester for our new site, www.emergentmusic.com, don't despair, tomorrow should be the day! If you want in, email me. What's this new site going to be all about? Basically it's a site where you can share your favorite (new) music with others. We'll then ensure that the best of that new music gets heard. Of course if you're lazy (like me) and don't know about any new songs then this will be a place for you to find new music (I know I'm sick of listening to the same 3000 mp3s day in and day out) and radio sucks. I think of the site as the Metafilter/Slashdot/News.com of music. But instead of using the free for all approach of Metafilter or the editorial approaches of Slashdot and News.com to decide what appears on the homepage every day we'll be polling music fans and then using some math to figure out what songs should go up.
Okay my download is done so I have to get back to work. Are the Jehovah witnesses using advanced data mining technology? This morning I had my first encounter with them. Growing up in the country and never answering the door in Waterloo means I've been spared, until now! Thinking the roofers needed water I answered the door to find two old ladies asking me about my brother Dani (actually Dani's a *she* but I guess their database doesn't have that much detail) and my sister Aimee. Spying a suspicious booklet in their hands I lied and said Aimee and Dani were at school but assured them I'd give them the booklet when they came home. They reassured me that both would be looking forward to seeing it. I nodded and hurriedly closed the door.
So do these old ladies go online each night and download maps of the neighbourhoods it's their duty to canvas each with detailed descriptions of the residents of the households so that they can better target their pitches?
