Needed: One fact checker for my Friday posts about Imprint.

My friends think I resemble Thomas Ian Nicholas (fansite) from Rookie of the Year (it was on cable tonight), American Pie,...

Can my real friends please disagree?

Parody of iTunes Music Store. They link to Fairtunes/Musiclink. Too funny.

Amazon should enter the digital music space because:
  • It will be very easy for them to differentiate their product offering:
    • Webservices - Allow people to develop 3rd party apps
    • Associate program - Allow people who develop 3rd party apps to profit from their work
    • Reviews - Allow people to review music
    • Collaborative filtering - None of the services yet have a real collaborative filtering engine
  • Wishlist - Allow friends and family to buy you digital music not just plastic
  • In the future they can leverage their digital music experience to deliever digital movies.

And the celebrity playlist thing in iTMS is way fun.

This is my wiki page for donation ideas for UW.

At the top of the list is ensuring all the labs have identical keyboards because some labs, like the 2nd floor, have awful keyboards that according to Natalie 'make you want to die'. Keyboards are not expensive.

Oh, and CS456 (Networks) is looking at moving to a 5 person group format instead of individual assignments.

My friends seem to think I bitch a lot.. Well.. From now on I'm going to 'incite positive change' and try harder to 'be the cause'. Whatever.

This weblog is my venue/soapbox for pointing out everything that bothers me with the world. Once I am out of school I fully intend on fixing everything that bothers me. That's right, I'm going to start my own bank, communications company and donate sufficient money to a university so that they can do things right.

Speaking of the Office of Research Ethics, check out this FAQ:

4. All I plan to do is ask a couple of people I know a few simple questions for my thesis. Does require ethics review and clearance?

All research involving humans as sources of data requires prior ethics review and clearance through the ORE. Participation in all research involves some level of risk to participants. The ethics review process is intended to ensure that each proposed study meets the requirements for ethical research as described in the Guidelines and the Tri-Council Policy Statement, as well as to provide the necessary protections for research participants.

The experience of being interviewed can be stressful for some individuals. Persons who participate in a research project of a friend must be afforded the same assurances and protections as any other research participant. In fact, the ethics review process is particularly important in this scenario given the relationship between researcher and participants. It ensures that the participants are adequately informed and that they understand that their involvement is voluntary and that they can withdraw from the study at any time.

(Emphasis mine).

No wonder there are no academic articles about new tech subjects! You have to wad through so much red tape.

We are doing our CS480 Assignment 2 on weblogs in the corporation (out of spite, since our prof doesn't believe in subjects not written about in journals) and have emailed out the following questions to some leading webloggers (without permission from ORE (oops, becuase supposedly it takes four months for clearance)). If any of you have any thoughts feel free to email (mgoyer@uwaterloo.ca) or post in the comments.

  • What are the benefits of weblogs for corporations?
  • What are the drawbacks of weblogs for corporations?
  • How can you motivate employees to contribute to weblogs?
  • How can you demonstrate the value of weblogging? i.e. that it is not a waste of employees’ time.
  • How do weblogs foster culture within an organization?
  • Assuming an organization has a large number of weblogs, how do you extract the relevant and valuable information from them?
  • Do you have any suggestions for further sources? (See http://tomato.cgcsys.net:8080/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=CS480Asn2 for our current list and feel free to edit).

Imprint,

We need to outsource our student paper to a school more hip and more critical.
