So about the Bomber..

Last night in addition to being Nat's B-Day was the first official Bomber night. So off we had at 8pm to find the world's longest line. No one in our large group of friends had seen a longer line. Of course we knew people at the front and promptly cut in. But regardless how close you are to the doors if the bar is at capacity no one is getting in. So off we went to Weaver's where we had a merry old time (and I forgot my camera).

Now my beef is this. Every first Bomber night of the year half the campus shows up and tries to get into this tiny hole of a bar (it's not called the Bomb Shelter for nothing). Why doesn't Feds recognize the obvious pent up demand and special event license a larger portion of the SLC? Oh wait, that's what they're doing Saturday night for the Big Chill which will flop as usual but that's because it's not first Bomber night!

Very typical of our university to have a large number of people willing to pay for something but unable to do so for lack of planning ahead. How is this typical? Think courses, textbooks, rec sports,...

And don't get my started on why Mel's should expand into the empty space beside them or why Groundzero should offer a $2.99 breakfast on the *weekend*.

Yes that's right. Nothing annoys me more than me wanting to spend and no one is willing to take my money.

Just like the old days!

From the USA Today article, Ain't too proud to beg on the Net:

The general idea behind tip jars for artists is a "beautiful" one, says Fairtunes co-founder Matt Goyer, 22, a Canadian computer science student. Though Goyer sold the company this summer and is no longer involved, he still endorses the concept. "It really reinforces the power of the Internet and the idea that you can connect person-to-person." Adds Appleman, "It's a direct support mechanism that's never been possible before."

Goyer and partner John Cormie launched Fairtunes in July 2000 because they wanted to pay artists for music being downloaded for free via Napster. Though Fairtunes got a lot of press attention, it raised only $12,000 for artists by the time Goyer and Carmie (sic) sold it in September.

It's too bad, she didn't publish any of my skepticisms..

But I do like this quote from the sidebar:

Although tip jars are popular now, James Van Dyke, an analyst at Jupiter Media Metrix, doesn't see much of a future for them.

If I had a faster Internet connection would it lead to higher productivity or just burn me out? (As I wait for more code to upload)

Via the Biscuit: The Volvo XC90. It's an SUV!

The Goyers are big Volvo fans though I don't think we're big SUV fans. And are SUVs even still 'in'?

Laurier is building a new residence *right* beside Natalie's place. Needless to say they get started just after 7am 6 days a week. I was hoping that this would be in violation of the Waterloo Noise By-Laws but it appears that they're not.

One of her roommates sleeps with earplugs in and I guess Natalie should go get some soon. I'm pro building more housing for students but not at the cost of ruining the lives of the students already in the neighbourhood. If I lived there I think that I would move.

(Natalie's b-day last night at the bar) + (early morning construction) = Headache
