This past weekend was a crazy one. I wish I could blog about it but the Blogosphere has proven recently that intelligent readers are unable to distinguish personal posts from disclaimed personal comments that might represent the company they work for. And worse, companies and a-list bloggers that should know better are re-inforcing people's inability to distinguish.

We're all overloaded with email so we should all read this HBS article, Tips for Mastering E-mail Overload (via Kottke). Some examples:

  • Use a subject line to summarize, not describe.
  • Give your reader full context at the start of your message.
  • When you copy lots of people (a heinous practice that should be used sparingly), mark out why each person should care.

Now if only I could find a way to read the 100 weblogs I subscribe to more efficiently.

I've definitely been on my share of planes, busses and trains with other passengers who get sick and so I found Matt's post on the worst case of stink plane quite funny.

If you're at student at the University of Waterloo please consider helping out UWS. While at school I found UWS to be a great resource for keeping up on, and more importantly, discussing school news. It would be sad to see this site go.

The biggest barrier to me working 55+ hours a week is the lack of food.

Today for insistence I was totally planning on staying late and cramming in some time with just me and my specs. Unfortunately I got hungry at around 5 and subsequently left at 6.

Yes, I could grab food in the Redmond/Bellevue area, but as soon as getting food involves getting in my car I'm just going to go home instead and once I'm home the probability that I'm going to work decreases significantly.

Now, what we need is for there to be an internal site where I can order dinner, it's debited from my meal card, and then delivered to my office. That would keep me full, happy, and productive. And for bonus points, the food preparation would be outsourced to a number of places with good takeout.

On days I can't afford my therapist I carpool.

While in Mexico I used my cell phone under the assumption that the calling was being billed at my usual per minute rate because every month a line litem shows up on my bill for a North America Package.

Well today I got my bill and had a charge for $96.75 for 75 minutes of voice calls in Mexico. After talking to AT&T Cingular I was surprised to find out that Mexico is not part of North America. Clearly I should have taken their marketing more seriously on their North American Package:

The North America Package redefines the boundaries of your applicable Serice Area.

No kidding.

After twenty minutes on the phone I was able to get them to retroactively sign me up for the World Connect Mexico plan which thankfully includes Mexico and drops the per minute rate from $1.29 to $0.69.

What annoyed me the most was that he didn't think that the package name, North America was misleading!
