This weekend the NY Times had two articles on fake IDs. I really take issue with, In the ID Wars, the Fakes Gain:
While getting a fake ID is a right of passage for many young people who want no more than access to the occasional six-pack or campus pub, the potential security threat posed by forged drivers' licenses - most prominently, the threat of access to commercial airliners - has cast the old barroom conflict in a new light.

What really bugs me about this article is that it focuses solely on using technology to solve the fake ID - bar owner/police arms race which has the potentially very scary side effect of undermining airport security. What solution are they missing? Lowering the drink age.

I know it may be inconceivable that a drinking age requirement of 21 may be out dated and inappropriate but are we surprised that kids are so keen on getting fake ids? Do we find it worrying that they are printing quotes like 'All of my friends have fake ID'?

I got forwarded an email the other day about some changes to our Capitol Hill/downtown (Seattle) bus situation:

  • 545 will run every 10 minutes during peak
  • New eastbound 545 stop at Bellevue & Olive - Officemate Ben, 'it's as if they created a bus stop just for me'. Yeah, this rocks! No more crossing Boren.
  • New 58 seat busses

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort. It's a big win for riders. And yes, I actually do ride the bus at least several times a week.

In other transit/traffic news, Ian reports that his friend (who works on Seattle traffic timing) recently convinced the Redmond traffic folks to change the signal timing at the 40th st exit on the 520. Apparently it was off a bit and that was causing those long backups.

Open links I need to read (we can't my browser just restart with the same tabs open as when I close it?):
