My yacht club grew up.

Apparently the yacht club that I spent eight years at while growing up at the lake has demolished my cherished old club house and built a new fancy one. I spent years learning how to sail in that old club house. For many of those years numerous decaying anmial heads ringed the ceiling while the floor was littered with chewed on old couhes for us to sit on. I not just learned to sail there but I also spent a summer working on the club laying brick for the patio and picking rocks out the sand volley ball court. Both of these fixtures appear to be gone. I also spent a few years teaching sailing there. That really was the life. Bonfires on the beach, fireworks gone awry, BBQ lunches, bannana day, bring your instructor a cookie day, no running at superman speeds, capture the flag...

What made our club special was it's lack of pretenciousness. We had a two room club house that didn't really lock up, beaten up but loved boats and tennis courts that you actually had to hike up to get to, no live in manager, no canteen, no TV, no trophy case. We also didn't have running water or a bathroom. It was a yacht club in name only. But now, I guess we're finally in a position to challenge the other major yacht club on the lake, The Royal Lake of The Woods Yacht Club. Let the one-up-manship begin!

Friday evening I got a surprise buzz from Dan Chak, who wasn't supposed to arrive in Seattle until August, who happened to run into Ming on the street who directed him to my place. Even more surprising is that Dan lives kitty corner to us. (Dan's from MIT and worked at Amazon with Nat, he's going back full time).

After a night out at Sea Sound Lounge (which is non-smoking!) and Chapel we hooked up with Dan and The Foo at his new place where he has done a much more thorough job of decorating than I have.

Anyhow, when I went to bed at 3:30am I programmed my alarm for 6:30am but forgot to actually set it. So of course, I woke up at 9:04am to catch a 9:05am flight. I called our emergency travel number and after much talk of rebooking onto $2000 flights I was advised to make a mad dash to the airport and fabricate a story about car troubles. So I made a mad dash to the airport (forgetting a lot of stuff such as student card, cellphone charger, cheque books, weblogging software...). When I got to the airport I lucked out and was served by the Continental first class counter:

David: 'Good morning Sir'
Me: 'Actually, I have a problem'
David: 'Sir, this is first class, there are no problems'. Me: 'Great, because I just missed my flight and all my flights on this reservation (4) have been cancelled'.

David took care of me and I got on the 12:00 flight. No change fee. No $2000 full fare ticket. Thanks!

Unfortunately this meant I got in much later than expected. Jonathan and I still managed to catch dinner at Sole (unfortunately they were only serving pizza at 11:30) and went out. We tried to go to Bomber but it was closed(!), then we tried Summerfest, and ended up settling for Club Ren.

Today Jonathan and I headed to Toronto so that I could buy a pair of shoes to replace my well worn and unstylish shoes (who knew round toes just weren't in any more?).
