'People in Florida don't even watch hockey.'

Bah. It was an intense last ten minutes though.

I'm giving a Microsoft tech talk next Tuesday at the University of Waterloo. I don't know the time or location yet but my tenative title is, Building killer apps for the living room using Windows XP Media Center:
Matt Goyer, program manager on the Windows Media Center team, will provide an introduction and live demonstration of Windows XP Media Center edition. He will then deliver a detailed walkthrough of how to develop an application or service for Media Center edition so that you can build the next Napster or Movielink accessible not just from a desktop computer but also from the couch or kitchen using only a remote control.

I'm not the extensibility PM responsible for the SDK so the talk will be rather high level but by the end I expect that if you have a reasonable understanding of HTML that you'd be able to write a simple 10' (10' = ten foot, our term of applications designed to be used from the couch with a remote control) hosted web app that is able to detect and control a Media Center's state.

Some sample apps I'll be demoing, are of course the Media Center, but also the 10' versions of Napster and Movielink.
