Went with John to pickup hockey tonight in Kent. Round trip time was 3 hours. Time on ice was 1.5 hours. Cost was $10 + whatever gas was.

I think my community service/volunteer work here in Seattle will be founding a community center on Capitol Hill with a hockey rink. How hard could it be to fund and build one? Of course seeing as seemingly 50% of the people playing hockey in Seattle are from Microsoft, Microsoft really should just build a rink on campus. But what with the cut backs I guess we couldn't spare a million or two to keep all the canucks happy.

I was devastated to hear after signing my lease for an apartment without a balconey that you are allowed to BBQ on balconies here in Seattle. Had I known this I would have absolutely got an apartment with one. I know there are indoor options such as a George Foreman grill but I tried that for a summer living in Toronto and it is just not the same (it's not just less cancer causing but it's less tasty too).

Fortunately though we have a large window leading to our fire escape. This lead me to consider two different BBQs. The Weber Baby Q and the Weber Q. I saw the Q at the local Fred Meyer and it looked to be just what I wanted but perhaps a little too big. So I called around but while Target sells them online, they do not stock the Baby Q, so I was unable to compare them in person. Figuring I'd never be holding big fire escape BBQs I went with the smaller and cheaper Baby Q.

Friday it arrived (to Ben at Amazon since I can't get personal shipments at Microsoft) and I set it up. Today I finally ventured out to find propane. I figured since Fred Meyer stocks the Q they must also stock the appropriate propane canister (it turns out it uses the same kind as the blow torch I use to melt my frozen pipes). It turns out they do but they don't stock it next to the BBQ! It took me forever to find and of course there were no helpful sales people. My note to Fred Meyer, stock the propane next to the BBQ. Oddly they stock Coleman propane canisters next to it and yet they stock way more Weber BBQs than Coleman ones.

My other observation is that the Weber really should use the Coleman propane canisters because they're half the cost and much more available.

For dinner I grilled up some hot italian sausages. Now with a BBQ I can finally stop eating out (as much)!
