The brand new looking Whirlpool washers ($1.25) and dryers ($1.00) in my building should really tell me how long they will take.

(Ideally they'd email/call/SMS when my load was done but I realize that might be asking for a lot).

Every day I either ask for or get a tip from my office mate Ben (in reality it is more than just one tip a day. I usually need a bunch to get through the day alive). I really should have been blogging them (at least internally) but haven't been.

Anyhow, today's tip: Do not say, 'I hopefully will...'. Instead say, 'I will...'. Have conviction. Get the job done.

Apartment update.

Today I bought a couch (Natuzzi black leather minimalist-ish), coffee table (white glass top with chrome) and dining room table (beechwood stained a dark grayish brown).

After visiting what felt like every furniture store in the area I'm glad I have closure on some of these big items, but I will admit that they're not the marquee pieces I lusted after. My rationale is that in a year or two I will be out of my apartment and into my own space and so I should save money for acquiring my own place and I should also not buy expensive pieces that might not fit into a new space. So I picked up some rather inexpensive items (but higher end than both Ikea and Dania) that should tide me over and may just fit into a new space.

So I'm getting closer to having an apartment warming. Perhaps in a week or two. Of course the place will still be bare but at least a few people will be able to sit down.

I found out the hard way what day they pick up the (glass) recycling is. I will now have to ensure that I go to bed early on Tuesday nights.

This apartment is much quieter than The Heights at Bearcreek in Redmond where you could hear absolutely everything. Babies, kids, adults,... You name it. You'd be crazy to sign a lease there because the sound insulation is non-exsistent. That said, here at the Carroll I hear the occasional foot steps from the people upstairs and you can hear the freeway.

I ordered naked 1.5mbps DSL from Qwest.

So the building here is rather old but was recently renovated. This week I found out way. Remember that earthquake back in 2001? Turns out this building suffered some damage so they moved everyone out and completely renovated the interior.

While I can't get HDTV now, I imagine that when I can get it my cable bill will probably be $100/month. For $100/month I'll get 95 channels that I will not watch.

Why can't I just buy the shows I want? Or at least, why can't I just buy the channels I want? (HBO, SuperStation, Comedy Central and maybe a big *BC network or two)

Two features I need for Outlook:

  • Warn me X minutes before a meeting if no one has accepted
  • Warn me that I'm scheduling meetings without scheduling conference rooms

So yes, no one accepts my meetings and often I find out 5 minutes before a meeting that I've scheduled for a bunch of people that we have nowhere to meet. Ah the life of a new hire :).
