It's great living downtown. All the Cap Hill bars, cafes, and restaurants are 5-10 minutes walk away, the downtown shopping district is a 7 minute walk away and Belltown is a 15 minute walk away.

Today I walked everywhere. I only had to use my car to go pick some stuff up. I also figure that it will be cheaper to cab places because once you figure in parking the cost is the same.

So quick weekend recap.. Friday John and I hung out and hit the usual Cap Hill bars, Saturday I shopped downtown and in south central, Saturday night the cool kids went to Queen Anne for sushi at Ototo, one of the best sushi places in Seattle (get the spider roll, it's a monster one), and then we hit a number of bars on Cap Hill and were joined along the way by a scary number of Softies. Sunday I had brunch at Julia's and got introduced to Urban Outfitters (check out the velvet Jesus there) and then I hit some more furniture stores and then Magnolia.

A fellow UW student who is moving to Seattle soon emailed with some questions and I thought I'd answer them here because he isn't the only one moving down here.

Q: How can you afford [your apartment]?

My rough guess at average housing prices for people of our demographic.. Room in a shared house ~$500, Studio/One bedroom ~$800-1200, Two bedroom $1400-1700.

I'm paying $1650 which includes one parking spot and split two ways is pretty reasonable.

Q: Are you getting a flatmate?

Yes, Ben will be joining me in May once he moves here to start his Amazon internship.

Q: Where is your apartment given that the commute you mentioned?

Here it is on a map. I live on Capitol Hill on the Pike/Pine corridor. The closest major intersection is Bellevue and Denny. If you're going to live in Seattle (which I recommend) make sure you find a place that is close to a bus stop/freeway entrance.

Q: Aren't you afraid that some wack-job will somehow hijack you with all the information you provide on your blog?

Nope.

Q: Cheap Beer?

The Blue Moon in the u-district had really cheap pitchers. Most happy hours have $2 wells and/or half price drinks.

Q: Liquor? (He didn't ask this but..)

A standard drink here is at least 1.5 ounces. Most bars free pour so it's probably closer to 2 ounces.

It's been an expensive weekend. I outfitted my kitchen, bought linens, bought a crazy stool, and picked up a receiver and speakers.

I still haven't been able to commit to buying living room furniture but I can't put it off much longer.
