And just so we're clear about that earlier post. A guy can read the style sections first and not be gay. Got that Natalie?

Last paper/report ever is now done!

Except for this pesky problem with word.... (images removed)

Thanks Jesse...

The big outdoor game is just about to get started. The Globe is running a story, Freezing cold temperatures put game in limbo and I just don't buy it. Granted I'm no NHL star (our B team lost our first playoff game today) but I did grow up playing hockey in (somewhat rural) Manitoba.

Growing up playing hockey in Manitoba was no fun; all our practices were outside and were rarely cancelled because of weather. For a few years I played hockey for St.Agathe, a small farming town outside of Winnipeg, and they had an indoor arena! But quite honestly it was colder in that arena then it was outside. I remember many a night (or very early morning) getting off the ice and crying because the burning accompanying thawing hands and feet was just so painful.

Of course we tried everything to keep warm such as going barefoot, wearing fancy socks, wearing pantyhose!, baby powder,... You name it I tried it. But it was still oh so cold.

But I have grown up now and last year we played a lot of pick-up on the rink at the school behind our house. A couple times when it was -20'c I thought it'd be too cool but once you get moving you forget how cold it is (it must be the large advances in sock technology).

Of course I wouldn't want to be in those stands not moving.

...Related outdoor hockey story. One Christmas John and I decided to flood a section of the Red River just behind my house. So we trucked down to the river, hacked a hole in the ice, hauled down some pumps and pipes and got all setup. Of course it was super cold and the pipes froze. So we hauled them back up to the garage, stole a kettle from the kitchen. In one end John poured the boiling water, at the other end I kept my ice on the ice build-up. Now we weren't getting the desired results (thawed pipes) so I got my face up real close to the end John had been pouring the water end to see what was going on when John lifted the other end. Semi-boiling water then erupted and burnt my face. Needless to say that put an end to our desire to flood the river.

I have a confession to make...

My favorite sections of the Saturday Globe and Mail and the Sunday New York Times are the style ones. I sense you're now probably losing any respect you might have had for me.. So maybe they aren't my favorite, but rather the first sections I turn to. Yes.. That's it.

For instance in the Globe's Style section we have such fascinating articles as:

  • Shop like a man. Since you're probably too lazy to read the article let me summarize the rules for you. But before I do, let me just say that I'm going to employ rule #1 this Christmas shopping season since my shopping ability has hit an all time low; only good can come from trying new things. So here are the rules:
    1. Before you set out, have a few cocktails
    2. Know thyself.
    3. Sometimes merely good is good enough.
    4. If you like it, buy it many times over.
    5. Don't be a label whore, no matter how expensive the label.
    6. Find a tailor, and make him your best friend.
    7. Stop shopping already. You have enough stuff.
  • I see London, I see France - Thongs are out, boy's underwear is in (I disagree with this trend)
  • Canadians come unbuttoned as global sex pioneers - Ah Leah McLaren. We all love to hate her.
  • Please don't tell my parents - The sex show in Toronto (I still haven't been)
  • Cool, recast - The centre becomes the new edge (this is troublesome)

And there is the article in the Toronto section about the ultra cool invite only club Spoke, The chosen ones.

I must also confess that I long for hipster cool minimalist bars with dark lighting, few chairs, house DJs, and fruity martinis.

So given my yearning for a styling hipster life it is clear I must move very far away from Waterloo and renounce my techie background. Seattle will be a step up, but by how much?

I'm so shallow.
