I think all web pages should have last-modified dates visible on them.

But wait.. Why can't my browser just display it on one of the status bars? It could since that info is in the HTTP response.. Though it seems as though some webservers set the last-modified field to be the current time which is bad.

This past week I have filled out five course evaluations and every time I wondered what happened to the promises made by certain Feds executives. From Liam's election platform, item number two:
* Put course evaluations online with or without the help of the administration.

And yet I have not heard a word about this and he has been in office for eight months. Imprint story idea: Find out what the hell is going on. Why aren't the evaluations online yet?

For a good rundown on the evaluations I urge you to check out Professor Ragde's post Student evaluations. In it he talks about some of the history of the evaluations, efforts to put them online, and the role they play in tenure decisions (not a big one). ...I love Ragde's blog and would nominate him in a second to write a regular column for Imprint.

Here is my 2nd last ever review of UW's student newspaper The Imprint which I love to hate.
  • News
    • Roomier carrels and a new atmosphere coming soon.
[Anne Fullerton, DC Library advisor], believes that the plans to renovate the DC library should also include the idea of a "meet and greet" atmosphere and while she does not believe that the library should be a "pickup spot" for dates, she does believe that the new DC library renovations should be a fairly social and supportive setting.
Too late. The DC Library has already overtaken Bomber, Walksafe and Ridesafe as the new place to pick-up. Any renovations will only increase DC Library's pickup quotient.
    • Apartments worth $5.6 million to be constructed at UW Place.
Ninety townhouse units are also being constructed beside Columbia Lake.
I don't know why you would want to live there since it is so far from everywhere. To live there you need a car.
    • DC and Dana Porter libraries expand hours for exam crunch. Now you can pick up 24/7. Actually I don't support this since I have the feeling that some students will actually study 24/7.
  • Opinion
    • Bomber Bombshell. It's Amy, our friend from Math/Business.
    • Why stay in math if you're dumb? I'm in the same boat though it's a long story best saved for after Christmas. But I do disagree with this:
So many other students will graduate with distinction, or on the dean's honours list. It's a safe bet that when the good jobs are calling, they will be the ones getting them.
I have two good jobs calling and neither requested a transcript so there is hope; don't give up.
    • Internet dating - the saga continues. Live vicariously through Michelle's adventures.
    • Election '03 revisited. I didn't vote in the municipal election. One election a month is enough for me. I also agree with Mark's comment:
Feds and council pretty much limited municipal election education to their decision to conditionally fund Mike Kerrigan, Stephen Skryzdlo and David Wellhauser $350 each -- which, by the way, does not count as education; just because these guys are/were students and/or you have one of them on your speed dial does not necessarily make their campaigns student-oriented or best to meet your needs.
    • Letter: Imprint, you suck. Great title.
    • Letter: Imprint, take a stand. This person is complaining about the campus question (and I had to look it up since I couldn't remember it), Every time you.. God kills... Maybe next time the Imprint should have used a lower case g. But really Melanie, how do you expect to resist the wave of crazy Internet meme's? Did you write letters of complaint to the 1000 people who forwarded you that photo back in the day?
  • Other
    • Heramb's A flusher's guide. I'm sure my housemates will gush about how brilliant this article is and how this week it really is his best ever, but whatever. I don't buy it, the Toronto Sun doesn't even publish articles such as this. Move Heramb out of Features and into the Mathnews (I'm guessing Hermab is in Math since I believe I've spotted him in the C&D there).
    • iPod iParty Ad. Wednesday, Nov 26, 10am-3pm at the Campus Tech shop. Win a 20gig iPod.
    • Science: Designing innovation. Sounds like fun. Wish I would have gone.

And please don't cover national and international news unless there is a very specific student angle.

It's a beautiful day! (The weather has been very sucky lately).

Looks like I put the lawn furniture away a bit early.

But I think I will go buy some food and BBQ up a hamburger and sit in the backyard for a while.
