Christine, a new UW blogger (she's in Math/C&O).

This weblog seems to be about four things: the University of Waterloo, the Globe and Mail, digital music & p2p and my oh-so-boring life. It's high on linkage and blockquotes and low on original thought. Maybe this will change.

In the meantime, I'll admit/confess that we watched the second episode of The OC last night while pre-drinking before going out. Seems as though some of the guys like it and can't miss the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of this show with Dawson's Creek potential. All I have to say is that we're no longer in highschool. Time to grow up.

The Wednesday, August 13th, Waterloo Chronicle has an article entitled: University bashes to see beefed-up police presence.

Why? Because 'one citizen wrote city council, asking the group to deny requests from the universities for noise exemptions' (council denied the request).

My favorite bit is when the citizen complains about the increased noise now that our bars are closed:

[T]he closing of the student bar facilites at the University of Waterloo has meant that their students now drink in the uptown area and walk home after bars close.

They also complain about the police wondering how the police don't notice these parties/loud students seeing as the station is at Albert and Erb.

The Globe and Mail: CRTC orders better e-911 service:
According to an Ericsson Canada Inc. study earlier this year, better wireless 911 service is the No. 1 improvement Canadians want on mobile phones, far ahead of the industry's own priorities such as games, ring tones and camera phones.

I use my phone for approximately 400 minutes a month and NOT ONCE EVER have I thought that I'd like better wireless 911 service.

Friday morning I leave for Seattle with Ming on a 4000km road trip. Any music, reading, driving or side trip recommendations are welcome. In return we'll do our best to photo-document our trip. I was thinking of having the family Fedex me a video camera but filming the trip is probably a better idea in theory than in practice.

I'm also looking for recommendations for places (i.e. cafes, your office,...)I can crash at in Seattle during the day that have high speed so I can get some work done, because oddly enough, the two Amazon software develoerps I'm staying with do not have high speed Internet (I'd give up phone, TV, running water,... long before I gave up Internet).
