I'm tired of UW politics (after only four days) but here is some real news that deserves cross posting for all of you lazy asses who don't read UWS.

UWS (and Mel): Bars to open (sometime)!

Jesse has some details:

Rumours abound about the bar dispute...

So you may have heard that the bar dispute is over. It’s not over, but it has taken a big step forward. The university and the Feds signed a mediation agreement today. The mediation agreement is one step towards new agreements for the Bombshelter and Federation Hall. The bars are not opening tomorrow, or even this week. But the bars are reopening in the near future.

Feds is dropping its lawsuit against the university.

Feds and UW are issuing a joint press release tomorrow morning. Since I’ve seen this all over the Internet already, I thought I’d post a short bit for the ultra-curious.

Anyone have more details? (I won't be celebrating till I'm in there with a drink in hand).

Just got the call that everyone is back from their July vacations and sailing is back on. Unfortunately I hear our racing #1 got ripped the last time out and is still in the shop.

Update: We got the gun today.

Tracy alludes to a large group of UW Livejournal users but her link is broken. Here they are. (Now using Tracy's fixed, better link).

About that fact checking...

Earlier I had posted some info about US jail population numbers. Here is a more complete picture taking into account all the various populations:

The country's prisons, jails and juvenile facilities held 2,166,260 persons at the end of last year.

For entertainment tonight I baked a chocolate cake pudding. As this was my first foray into baking I had to shell out the big bucks at the grocery store to equip my kitchen. The baking essentials I needed included things such as flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, oat bran and the list goes on. Cost me something like $15. Would have been cheaper to buy a cake mix!

Fortunately everything worked out (and the fire alarm only went off twice) and I'm now in chocolate heaven.

To accompany this delicious dessert I watched Sex and Lucia. It was good, but I need to see it again.
