Expert recommendations vs. Reviews from Jane Doe

The problem with Amazon recommendations is that I do not want recommendations (for the most part they're not recommendations, but reviews) from just average joe/jane users. I don't care if you liked the book; you probably don't know any better. What I want is to be able to type in a subject 'sailing racing' or 'power reading' or 'digital camera' and then see what people with *expertise* or *knowledge* in that *specific* area or niche recommend.

Amazon needs a way of qualifying the expertise of their recommenders (and their editors for that matter). Offline authentication of creditentials would be too expensive so they need to develop an easy to use web of trust system or a system whereby experts emerge based on past accurate recommendations.

Yesterday I had to drive Natalie from our cottage to the Winnipeg airport. I had the drive perfectly timed in order to minimize waiting at the airport. Of course my timing did not take into account freak acts of nature.

So, yes, I was surprised to find this tree blocking the driveway. Fortunately the chainsaw had a little bit of gas in it, started and some family was on hand to move the pieces. Nine minutes later we were driving down the road and encountered another tree! Dressed in my finest gap boy outfit and CSA approved work boats I cleared it out of the way. To be on the safe side we took the chainsaw with us but fortunately the rest of the road was clear and we made it to the airport with enough time to spare to get a coffee after check-in.

A few other lake photos.

CMA's Do Not Contact list. It doesn't beat a federally mandated do-not-call list, but it's better than nothing.

Fortunately since I only have a cell phone I only seem to get calls from my banks trying to upsell me.

I think if I switch to a high volume shampoo I could lessen my dependency on gel/wax/glue/...

CTV.ca: Canadian fileswappers to get legal alternatives (via Paul/Pho)

Lots of rhetoric at the top. This is the only interesting bit:

In the fall, Toronto based company Moontaxi hopes to fill that void when it launches its new service PureTracks.

Modeled on Apple's online music store, PureTracks will allow users to buy and download licensed digital music -- as individual songs chosen from a catalogue of major and independent record labels.

Moontaxi Media co-founder Alistair Mitchell says his company is racing to fill a niche.

Of course it will be near impossible to beat the usability of iTunes, the portability of the iPod, and Canada is a pretty small market.

Link to Moontaxi's site. Here is the team. Has anyone heard of these people?

RBC Centura 'lost' my request to transfer money (that I put in on Wednesday which should have gone through Thursday) and they won't put in another transfer request.

Update: They found the request and transferred the money. Who knew moving digits was such hard work.

Request a song from REM during their summer tour. But, I'm a little stumped as to what I want to request.

I'm seeing them in Seattle for only $15 at the Bumbershoot. Beat that Winnipeg Folk Fest.

I had a dream, or was it nightmare?, that Robin grew out his hair and started wearing a mesh truckers hat.
