I have a $20 gift certificate for my favorite company (U-Haul). It expires 10/29/03. The current high bid is $10. If you're interested respond before 10am tomorrow or the $10 takes it.

I spent some time this weekend watching The First Network For Men at the Math Boy's place and about 75% of the commercials were specifically geared towards women.

While cleaning up yesterday I found this newspaper clipping w/photo from when my team, the St.Norbert Raiders (5 & 6 year olds), won both the Maples Tournament and the Ste.Agathe Tournament.

So, I ran the WinXP harddrive checker and it took forever and corrected a bunch of errors and now everything seems okay. I'll run the Dell diagnostic kit when I go to bed to make sure this IBM Travelstor hasn't gone bad (I've already had one go bad and so has John, so I should know better than to trust it). If it hasn't gone bad then it's just a little weird that WinXP would cause so much corruption on it's own that it wouldn't even boot.

My friend AJ is now engaged. Congrats!

AJ's will be the third wedding for the highschool gang. So far the university gang is unengaged but I'm sure by next summer my mail box will be receiving at least one invitation.

It's been a bad morning.

First the paper wasn't on the door step.

And then my notebook screen was black and Windows XP would not boot at all. Calmly I biked to school and picked up a WinXP CD and was able to boot off it. Once at the recovery console I got the gut wrenching message 'unreadable directory' when trying to dir c:. Fortunately running 'chkdsk' at the console brought the file table back online but things are all FUBAR. From, You can't delete or repair a corrupt file on an NTFS partition?

If you have tried everything, your only solution is to:

1. Backup the entire partition, exluding the corrupted files. If you have an alternate install, do it from that instance.

2. Reformat the partition. If you only have one, with NT you can install a temporary instance, having setup delete and recreate.

3. Restore.

Stupid NTFS.

Of course before I do anything I'm backing up my 1.3 gigs of Outlook data files, which was last backed up in March which is why I ran for the bathroom when it looked like my HD was fried.

So, make regular backups.
