My Rogers Internet service has been pretty bad lately. Anyone else having problems?

Everytime I call RBC Centura to transfer money I have to give them the same information (account #'s, client card #'s,...). You would think with the high cost of operating a call center (each transfer requires I talk to two different service reps) that they wouldd either have moved this feature to the Internet or enabled their system to remember the details of often made transactions.

The Sacramento Bee School closely tracks cheaters (via Scoble's comments)
Throughout the year, the names of students caught cheating were placed in a computer file that students call "the cheaters list."

As names were added by the assistant principal, e-mails were sent to teachers informing them that the list was updated.

Dave's dad is retiring because:
His students are cheating, and when he catches them, they fight about it, instead of being shamed.

Scoble suggests:

Maybe instructors should start a "cheater's log." That'd be up on Google for future employers to find.
My response:

It's a two way street.

There may be an increase in students cheating but likewise many professors cheat by recycling the same old material and injecting zero energy and enthusiasm into their lectures. There is also increased pressure on students from parents, fellow students, and especially employers to get *high marks* which is much different than an emphasis on learning for learning's sake. Throw in rising tuition, larger classes, zero contact with your professor outside of your 200 person lecture and yes, I think it is understandable why cheating occurs.

And while many would like to publish a list of a 'cheaters', likewise students would like to publish a list of bad professors. Sure there is our favorite site http://ratemyprofessors.com, but at least at our school (UofWaterloo), every student for every course fills out a teacher evaluation that gets sent to the Dean's office but they never make their way to the web for easy access for up and coming students. Professors need to have their rights protected too.

Cheating is indicative of a broken system, nothing more, nothing else.

(Don't get me started on rating/evaluating co-op/intern employers).

As promised, Gord Downie is releasing bootlegs of his concerts. You can buy them at MapleMusic for $10/show. They're MP3s encoded at 128kbps.

I'll download a show tomorrow and let you know how they sound.

...From the email sent out announcing the availability of the first two shows:

Q: Can I burn the songs onto a CD or copy them to another computer/portable device? A: Yes. We do not use any additional security measures to prevent this. Once you have downloaded the songs the [sic] belong to you.
