Looks like Dell has dropped the pointing stick/nipple from all but one of their (Canadian) notebooks.

I love my pointing stick and hate the pad (I've even gone so far as to disable mine).

Just bought: Gordon Downie's Battle of the Nudes.

I'll listen to the CD once, rip it, and throw it out.

Not that I'm dissing Gord Downie only releasing stuff on plastic. He and The Hip have been very technologically progressive. For example, all his shows on his upcoming tour will be released via his website (for free?) a week after they're taped. Plus, he already has two bonus tracks available for download. Now that, is cool. That's something I'll support. Even if it means buying landfill filler.

CNET/Reuters: Software piracy rate dips:
Corporations cracked down on pirated software last year, trimming the worldwide glut by a percentage point, according to a new industry report.

I don't believe it's down because of a crack down. I believe it's down because of their whacky methodolgy which is not based on any actual study but rather is a guesstimate based on all kinds of real and imagined market data. Recall:

They are calculating demand by estimating PC shipments based not on actual PC shipments or sales data but instead by extrapolating from employment and population figures
I can't find the study they're talking about, but the above is from my paper on software piracy which looked at their past studies. So piracy is most likely down as a result of the greater economic downturn. You'd think an economic downturn would prompt an upswing in piracy rates but if you are basing supply on the amount of software shipped and demand based on employment and population data anything can happen. What's most surprising is that they don't engineer/tweak their methodolgy every year to show an increasing amount of piracy. But, I guess they must have some 'wins' in order to justify the undisclosed amount of money that software firms pay them (I contacted the BSA but they refused to talk about their membership fees, except to say that they are based on a member company's revenue).
