Geoffrey York from the Globe and Mail this weekend, 'We jolted over sheets of jagged rock and loose stones, with a steep cliff perilously close'.

Reminds me of this day while traveling when we went up to Auli (near Joshimath) in India in search of fresh powder :). After the 12 hour bus ride (from Rishikesh) I got out and burst in tears; that's how scared I was. Lining the road were signs with such inspirational messages as:

  • Honey I love you but don't go so fast
  • No race, no rally, enjoy the beauty of the valley
  • If you love her, divorce speed
  • Darling I love you but please don't go so fast
  • Safety saves
  • Awake Alert Avoid Accidents
The one lane road with bi-directional traffic was carved into the side of the mountain with 'a steep cliff perilously close' and yes we did see the remnants of trucks that had gone over the edge (there was no guard rail..).

AnaKitty from Aneroxic Nation wanted to know if I could have been any more mean in this entry. And the answer is yes! But whatever; I respect smokers right to kill themselves in the privacy of their own homes and so likewise I respect people to starve themselves or gorge themselves (you should have seen the 'elvis burger' John ordered last night. boy was it big). God knows I don't eat enough fruit.

Of course while we must respect the choices some people make what about the costs they bring to bear on our health care system? Hmmm.. Update: Mark tells me not to argue this based on cost since smokers pay more than there fair share. Which is great news! Keep smoking and keep my taxes down.

Went to see The Watchmen (who apparently haven't paid their web hosting bill?) yesterday with Nick, Tracy, and Craig Marshall. Thanks to Nick for scoring the free tickets.

Now I had never meet Nick or Tracy before but I do read their weblogs and it was funny meeting them since you have this image in your head based on all you know about them and then you meet them and realize that you're perception differs from reality and it then takes a while for your mind to catch up and get over your pre-conceived notions.

And ever weirder (well perhaps not) is that my family used to go skiing with Craig's family since his family runs M&M Tours in Winnipeg. Funny running in to him here after 8 years?

Dan, I use Webalizer though I'm looking for something that breaks things down by day not month.. And I'd like something that would notify me after my site received x referrers in y hours. If anyone knows of any such log software.. Let me know.

Curt wrote a rebuttal to the Electronic Musician piece that I link to below. If you're interested in that you might also want to check out Courtney Love does the math, There's this band, , RIAA's cost of a CD and the Fairtunes FAQ.
