Thai software pirates crack Windows XP,

Thai police regularly crack down on software piracy, raiding shops selling unauthorized goods and crushing illegal products with steamrollers or even with elephants in public ceremonies.

Five dollar reward if you find me a picture of elephants crushing illegal products :).

Darryl sent me a Toronto Star article on Driver licenses help clubs build databases. Of course I'm against having my information collected and used in such a manner and hope that new legislation will curb the 'illegal' use of this information. But on the other hand I certainly understand the value of the information and would condone it's collection if done responsibly and properly.

Needless to say, I'm flying to the US on Friday.

Looking for what I said on the iPod? Check out this post on the harddrive comparison (and it's follow up on operating shock) or maybe this one one piracy.

Metafilter: Another plane crash in NYC just minutes ago.

Dave has good coverage and here's a load-balanced version of CNN's lead article.

The UW Bulletin brought to my attention that the University of Waterloo is the number one 'comprehensive university' in Canada according to Macleans magazine. Last time we were number one was in 1994. Though this year, like every other year for the past 10 years Waterloo took first place in 'reputational rankings' which for me is the important ranking.

From one of the Macleans articles:

Waterloo, which placed first in the Comprehensive category, is renowned for its innovation and academic excellence, especially in the fields of science and technology. That buzz, combined with the allure of the country's largest co-operative education program, has enabled the midsize Ontario university to attract more than its share of top-flight students.

So while I often bitch about UW it certainly is nice to be at the best school in Canada (if not one of the top in the world).
