Last night we rented and watched Election on DVD now that I have a dvd player in the new notebook. This morning we ripped the movie and it now sits as a 1.4gig file on my harddrive (checkout cladDVD if you're interested. it has some software plus a guide and links to all the other software you need to get the job done). Let's just say that ripping DVDs is way cool (but takes 1/2 a day) and will result in my buying a new hard drive (7200rpm 40 gig) and possibly a burner (should have got the DVD-CDRW combo drive!) to store all the movies I plan to steal.
Anybody have movies to trade? My mom sent an email implying that if I didn't mention how glad I was to have them visit me in Toronto from Friday to Tuesday then I wouldn't have a very warm welcome when I fly into Winnipeg this weekend. Well Family, I'm glad you came. Here are our CN Tower photos. Remember that you too can add comments to the photos.
What did they do in Toronto? Lots of shopping, ate at Fran's (Toronto's version of Mel's), visited the ROM, the CN tower, and checked out the local scenary which can be very entertaining at times. They were also here for the second mid-afternoon rain shower of the summer. Adam (from Winnipeg) emailed the other day. Rumor has it Phish is coming out with a 17 disc set titled 'Live Phish'. Now he 'wants these albums more than almost anything'. Now I could recommend he start scouring Limewire and WinMX but I don't think Adam has time to troll for a 17 disc set which got me to think during my mid-afternoon shower (the joys of working at home) that what Adam needs is a place to post his request and then offer an amount of money to have it fulfilled. People who wanted MP3s/movies (a post is coming on the marvel that is DVD ripping) post their requests because their time is expensive. People who have lots of time or large collections can then fulfill the requests for money. Sure it's probably illegal but whatever, I have no respect for our laws anymore. Of course none of this sould be necessary. Adam should be able to buy the album online (he could order the plastic discs but then he'd have to pay duty at the border). Adam wants the music but it's not what he wants to pay for (maybe he does but for the sake of this discussion..). What Adam wants is to pay for quick, fast, and easy delivery of the music. Anyone know of a website that does this?? Failing anyone knowing of one...
$50 to the first person who sends me the first 5 shows (14 discs) of 'Live Phish' scheduled to be released Sept 18. I think John would also offer a $5 reward for fills of Alanis Unplugged. And I'll offer $10 per Tegan and Sara show that people can find (I have one Philly and one TO show already) (see it's not just about canned music, it's about the live stuff too). This is a big shout-out to Salon for their wicked-awesome article, Carson, Courtney and the ultimate shout-out it rocks my world! Woooo!
I think I caught bits of TRL (aka Total Request Live) while formating my brain in front of the tube in Upstate. I can't say that I understand it but I guess we have to understand if we're in this business of music.
