Okay! John and Matt are off to New York on official Fairtunes business. We'll be gone from Saturday to Tuesday. You can join us for only $200USD (Air Canada special, I'm not kidding we'd love company) (but of course we're not paying..), or you can recommend things to do and see. I'm having to take two days off work. That sure will hurt the next cheque!

Chris and Luke have a website, as do John and Matt. The difference is, John and Matt haven't whored themselves out to First USA. Instead J&M have remained true to themselves and their potato gun. Chris and Luke also have a publicist. John and Matt don't, and yet J&M still made it onto or in: CNN, NY Times, LA Times, The Register, Wired Magazine, Wired, Salon, CNET, ZDNet, Slashdot, Canadian Press, the Imprint, Globe and Mail, National Post, CBC, CTV, Global, Fox, TechTV, Memepool, Drudge Report...

So about the gym today.

First remark: Girls out numbered guys for the first time. At one point a squad of four 17 year old perfectly done up girls came in to show off, I mean exercise. I guess they didn't realize what Y they were at. That's right, the boystown one.

Second remark: I got picked up! (And not by one of the young girls).

So it started off very casually like, 'can I use that machine when you're done', progressed to, 'what are you listening to?' (Tegan & Sara, Melissa Ferrick, and Ani). Then followed by smiles.

Which prompted him to wait for me after I was done stretching at the end of 'my routine'. 'Hi, I'm David.' 'Hey, I'm Matt'. I remarked that we work out everyday with the same people and yet we know no ones names. He asked where I worked and seemed pretty interested to hear I was a telecommuting nerd. He works for Xtra, 'Canada's gay and lesbian media group since 1971' just over on Church. He's from Thunderbay and going back tomorrow for the first time in 5 years. I'm from Winnipeg and go home a lot. We all come from somewhere right?

I sensed he was trying to slide the question in somewhere. But he didn't and I certainly wasn't. Maeve told me I should have slipped, 'I live on Maitland with my girlfriend' into the convo when he asked where I live (note to reader: if you live on Maitland you're pretty much gay). Next time I will though. Maybe I'll suggest he visit my weblog and hopefully he'll notice the photo album of my girlfriend. I don't know. Rafi, what do you suggest?

I of course took the Gay Test that Rafi pointed to today. I keep getting a server error at the end of the ~70 questions. The girls think it's because I'm SOOO gay. We'll have to see.

So I guess I'll see David tomorrow. I wonder how it will go.

On another note. My sister remarked, 'I went to see all your pictures and it just made me jealous and wanting to have a fun life like yours'. Of course what I'm not posting are the pictures of me sitting in front of 3 computers for 10-12 hours a day. That's what the webcam is for (which I should reconnect.. It's on another computer because we were trying to setup a work teleconference but failed). I'm also not posting the pictures of me at the lake because I can't afford a $1mil lake front cottage or the berthing fees for a boat.

You're probably wondering why I bought a book on managing software projects. Well you're probably not. But if you are. Finger jdcormie@uwaterloo for the answer. But then again you probably don't know what finger is. Fortunately there is an MIT gateway. Finger John now.

TV PEOPLE ARE SO SCARED OF FOLKSINGERS: ANI DIFRANCO'S RETURN TO LATE SHOW IS CANCELLED

That's right The Late Show didn't want Ani to play Subdivison (click <- for lyrics) and so she cancelled. The song opens, white people are so scared of black people and is my favorite song on her new double album. It's frightening how scared we all really are.

Gary bought the Buffet book I mentioned the other day after reading the Amazon reviews. So today he emailed me telling me this and I replied I had just got this book Peopleware about managing software projects. On the back it basically says to buy a copy for your boss so I tell him this and then he replies, I own it, haven't read it but have read other project management books, and anyway 'That's why I hired Bob. :-)'. Bob's I guess my project manager. He's also our CTO. I should feel special that as the only employee I have my very own project manager all to myself :). Ah the dot.com startup atmosphere.

Note: I bought the book from Barnes and Noble along with The Cluetrain Manifesto (because Doc Searls whose weblog I read daily co-authored it). So I buy the book and get the cheapest shipping which is Canada Post. Says it'll take 5-10 business days. It took 15 business days. I'm not impressed.

I also went and got tough with The Royal Bank today about their USD cheque hold policy. My hold time is now down to 10 days the theoritical lowest that it can go (supposedly). I get home and call around and low and behold the other banks give me times between 10-25 business days. Which is ridiculous since all of the banks in Canada own subsidary banks in the states so really you can't tell me that our banking system is so arcane that it actually takes 10 business days.
