I've been trying to think of a suitable weblog tagline.. How about:

'just a boy and a browser'

?

(Of course my mind thinks I've stolen that from somewhere but Google couldn't find it so I guess not.) ..Now where to place it on the page.

The neatest thing about PriceSCAN is their price graphs. Check out a graph of a generic 256MB simm. At one point it's up to $1000US and now it's $29.99US. Makes one wonder why the price of memory at co-managed facilites such as RackSpace haven't dropped accordingly.

Tech nuggets:

Tim pointed me to this new search engine called Vivisimo which 'does results clustering'. Check me out.

Rob pointed me MusicBox which lets you stream songs from Freenet. I couldn't get it to work. Rumor has it the new Freenet release will fix things up?

Our work server at Verio was rebooted two days ago and lost it's 200 days of uptime because their data center lost it's 'commercial power' and it took 20 minutes to get the generator (manually) online during which time they maxed out their battery back up units. You'd think they'd just tell us this instead of me having to email and call complaining that our server had been rebooted. But rest assured. They're working with their vendors 'to insure that this problem does not reoccur'. ..I know it's just a development server but come on, this is Verio!

Sorry for the point form post but otherwise I'd be blogging all night and we all know I'm not eloquent and interesting like some other bloggers we know (right Natalie?) so why bother with formalities.

The webcam is still out of commission but should be online tomorrow as I'm almost through ripping John's CD collection. I'll open up an FTP server up on the weekend so everyone can go nuts. If I can I'll find a tool that will convert my music library to HTML so you can all view it to see what awful taste I have in music.

Jonathan's weblog is killing me but I'm jealous that people leave him comments. Maybe it's time to switch blogging apps.. But then again, would people leave comments for me even if they could? I could see my mom leaving me comments telling me not to drink on weekdays and my sister would complain about me complaining about air conditioning or money and my dad would complain that I never told him about the weblog in the first place and Natalie would just say how everyone elses weblog is better than mine.

I'm going to buy a Canon S110 today or tomorrow. I'll be buying it in the States so that I can save about $150CDN. I called and there is no duty on digital cameras which is very nice. So you can all look forward to daily photos.

Its dangerous having a computer book store next door.. I went there twice today ready to buy. The first time they struck out on SQL in a Nutshell but the second time I left with a vi Pocket Reference. How nerdy is that!? (I forgot how to merge two lines..)

Last night Langeman and I went and saw Dido. The question on everyone's lips was how can Dido play at the Molson Amphitheatre when she's only released one CD. Well she did and it was really good. She had a full band and a DJ scratching away. Travis was the other act and they too were good (descriptive reviews I know). Very chatty. Very witty (but I'm sure they use the same jokes every time) and the girls went absolutely nuts for them. There was also an opening act but their name appeared nowhere online or at the venue and the singer never mentioned it. That's one way to ensure I won't be pirating your tracks.

I'm back from the dead!

Have I gone a whole week without blogging? Wow. That is hardcore. Though it must prove that I'm not addicted like I thought I was.

So to catch everyone up:

  1. Went to Winnipeg on Friday with Nat (2 hr flight)
  2. Drove to the lake (2 hr drive)
  3. Saturday chilled at Echo Bay (my mom's & our cottage). Weather was sunny, cool, and windy.
  4. Sunday chilled at Austin Lake (my dad's cottage). We went swimming because his lake is much warmer than ours.
  5. Monday chilled back at our place.
  6. Monday night: Mom gets run over by motor boat
    • She calls from the neighbours for us to come over in the car.
    • We drive over.
    • We're taken to the dock and told to get the motorboat which has our dog in it in the other bay
    • Aimee drives while I 'Navy Seal' from the borrowed boat into our boat which is going in circles with Pintail (our dog) at the helm (it was a very dangerous stunt but way cool).
    • I drop Pintail off at our place. Rip back to neighbours.
    • Find one soaking wet mother with a towel and frozen corn pressed to her head.
    • We swing by our place get warm clothes.
    • Natalie, my mom, and I rip off to Kenora's hospital
    • We drop mom off and go for dinner.
    • We got tired of waiting and went to see Tomb Raider while mom dies a slow death in the under-funded emergency ward
    • We pick up mom whom the doctor believes is very lucky to be alive.
    • She got 10 stitches on her head where presumably the prop nicked her.
  7. Tuesday we go canoeing and burn ourselves (finally) in the hot sun.
  8. Wednesday it's back to Toronto bright and early
