Thinking up a title for every day is a lot of work!
Went to Mel's for breakfast (again) today. So simple (white, sunny side, bacon), So good.
So to come clean about Coke Machine Glow... Last weekend I was surfing over at Natalie's for more info on CMG, Gord Downie's latest album and couldn't find much. Of course I checked to see if the label had put anything up yet on the logical choice of www.cokemachineglow.com and they hadn't because the domain name wasn't even taken yet!! So I bought the name. It was even getting hits without me having to do anything. So yesterday I put a mailing list sign up on it and low and behold I already have 6 names in 24 hours. What this represents in the fundamental failure of music labels, management, and artists to grasp the full potential of the Internet. Before they even announced the name of Gord Downie's new album they should have secured the domain name if it hadn't already been taken. That is just common sense. I may not know much about music but I do know what it takes to survive on the net.
Over the last couple days I've been spending some time on the Kickstarts website entering Fairtunes in their venture competition. I did it because it would be cool to win some stuff or the Blackberry but also I wanted to see what their process was for determining what the best venture is. In terms of tasks they ask all the usual questions about your business. Some of the more unique things include:
- Leaving your elevator pitch on an answering machine
- Having people from your network email them
- Contacting potential customers and submitting your details of the conversations
There is a time component to some of this and since I started it over the weekend I kind of screwed myself because you can't contact customers on the weekend and it's unlikely your network will respond on a Sunday. I've got 24 hours to go. Hopefully the network pulls through by then.
