Ugh, so a month ago a charge for $36.95 showed up on my credit card. I tried calling the 800 number associated with the charge but got nowhere. I then called Bank of America and they intiated an investigation and ended up denying my claim. I called a second time, intiated a second investigation and they again ended up denying my claim. Today I called for the third time asking why they kept denying the claim and the reason is that the merchant was able to verify my address, email address and IP address. Now there’s no doubt they can verify my address since I actually got a bill in the mail for this charge!
Turns out someone (firstname.lastname@example.org) bought web hosting with Yahoo for the domain name ww2-awards.com and I was now getting the bill asking to provide a new credit card since the card they had on file no longer worked (because I cancelled my card). I’ve contacted Yahoo and they’ve cancelled the web hosting service and are now doing their own investigation to see if they can refund the $36.95.
Needless to say I’m irked at Bank of America for making me run around to get rid of this charge and irked at shod_69 for using my stolen credit card number. Plus it turns out that shod_69 is based here in Washington:
