Cap Hill is so diverse

Seattle Times, Liveliness, diversity are valued hallmarks of Capitol Hill area:

Many residents of Seattle’s Capitol Hill revel in the liveliness of their neighborhood. Gay couples hold hands. Young people sport mohawks and brilliant pink, blue or purple hair. Street musicians strum guitars or beat homemade drums. New mothers wheel their babies’ strollers into coffee shops.

Immigration Reform

Microsoft.com, Statement From Bill Gates on Senate Passage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform:

By passing comprehensive immigration reform legislation today that makes prudent adjustments to the annual H1-B visa and green card caps for high skilled employees, the U.S. Senate has taken a critical step forward in its important work to ensure that our nation remains the global leader in technology innovation.

Here’s another article from EE Times, High-tech groups laud Senate immigration bill:

According to proponents of the Senate measure, the annual H-1B visa cap would be raised by 50,000 a year from the current 65,000 per year. It would also create what is being called a “market-based cap” to allow for future increases in the visa limits. It also would raise the green card cap to 650,000 for fiscal years 2007 through 2016.

An increase in the limit is great, though I need to understand how this impacts the filing of my I-140 and I-485 (my PERM Labor Cert has a priority date of September 29, 2005)

Credit Card Fraud

Ugh, so a month ago a charge for $36.95 showed up on my credit card. I tried calling the 800 number associated with the charge but got nowhere. I then called Bank of America and they intiated an investigation and ended up denying my claim. I called a second time, intiated a second investigation and they again ended up denying my claim. Today I called for the third time asking why they kept denying the claim and the reason is that the merchant was able to verify my address, email address and IP address. Now there’s no doubt they can verify my address since I actually got a bill in the mail for this charge!

Turns out someone (shod_69@yahoo.com) bought web hosting with Yahoo for the domain name ww2-awards.com and I was now getting the bill asking to provide a new credit card since the card they had on file no longer worked (because I cancelled my card). I’ve contacted Yahoo and they’ve cancelled the web hosting service and are now doing their own investigation to see if they can refund the $36.95.

Needless to say I’m irked at Bank of America for making me run around to get rid of this charge and irked at shod_69 for using my stolen credit card number. Plus it turns out that shod_69 is based here in Washington:

I was on King5 news

It’s like the old Fairtunes days. This Sunday I was on King5 Upfront News, talking, briefly, about the condo craze.

San Juan Hut System

This sounds like a great trip to do next summer, Telluride to Moab via the San Juan Hut System:

San Juan Hut Systems operates a 206-mile mountain bike route from Telluride, Colorado to Moab, Utah. Each hut is approximately 35 miles apart and is fully equipped. This route follows dirt roads from the high alpine tundra of the San Juan Mountains to the desert slickrock and canyon country of Utah.

Technical single track is available.

102 movies to see

From Roger Ebert.com 102 Movies You Must See Before…

These are the movies I just kind of figure everybody ought to have seen in order to have any sort of informed discussion about movies. They’re the common cultural currency of our time, the basic cinematic texts that everyone should know, at minimum, to be somewhat “movie-literate.” I hope these movies are experiences we can all assume we share.
