IM apps UX

I have three different IM apps installed. All three insist on displaying something when I restart my machine. Why? Just log me in and stay in my sys tray. It’s presumptous to think I turned on my machine because I wanted to IM one of my ‘buddies’.

Also, why does Adobe Acrobat need to restart my machine after I update it from 7.0 to 7.0.5? And why do they need to launch their app after the restart? Ugh.

Odds are because it put a copy of “Adobe Fast Start Up++” or something in the Start up group. And it thinks that that should REALLY be installed and running.

Frankly, with regards to Adobe, I’ve switched to FoxIt Reader: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/ – much faster than Adobe’s reader and it doesn’t seem to cause IE to hang. TM2C, of course :)

Am I imagining this? A M’Softie asking why a competing product needs to reboot after an update? The champion of all reboot-after-updating, Windows, continues to this day to confuse users with messages like: “To complete this installation, Windows might require restarting after you finish this wizard.”

C’mon…”might require restarting”? It’s a computer, how can it be so unsure of what it’s doing!
