Henry Farrell of the University of Toronto and Daniel Drezner of the University of Chicago are writing a paper together on weblogs and politics (via BB). Perhaps we could goad Prof. Ragde into writing one on weblogs and education.

I should have started blogging our (Ontario provincial) debate quips earlier but here are the ones from the last half:

'McGuinty and Eves are the same age' - Robin

'I really don't like all these numbers' - Natalie, a math major.

'And we're getting a pony!' - Robin pretending to be a kid whose teachers were locked out.

'Ughhhhhh' - Collective ughhing when Eves talks.

'We're fucked when we have kids' - Robin in response to the doctor situation

'PEI probably has more flow than us. They've got five doctors sitting there going we want some patients' - Robin

'I think I have SARS. ...How is health care an investment?' - Natalie

'That's a suspect statment' - Robin talking about Eves

'I want them to be like, I have a friend like you, and Bob is homeless because they cut community health centres' - Natalie

'By not [true], I mean totally' - Robin takling about Eves

'People are going to treat me like a pariah now' - Natalie on hearing I blogged her SARS comment

'We don't have to build the beds. That's not the fundamental issue. I'll build you a bed!' - Natalie on health care.

'How many provinces are there?' - Natalie

'10' - Robin.

'I want to _______, don't write that!' - Natalie

'McGuinty knows about botox and hair dye' - Jenn (via email)

'I want a pot smoking premier' - Natalie

'Blame the Americans' - Natalie

Benign. 'That sounds cancerous' - Nat, 'Or the opposite!' - Robin

'Combover!' - Natalie

'They're all ActSci. Fuck em! ....You can't [weblog] that. Drew will kill me.' - Robin

I eventually got bored and left the living room.

Today in Info Sys we talked about garden.com as if they were an info sys management success when in fact they're bust.

We also talked about Tip Top's info sys management failure as if they weren't being managed by a parent company (Dylex) that was a conventional management failure.

It really annoys me when assignments due dates are posted at the same time as the assignments. Why assignments and their due dates can't all be posted on the first day of classes is beyond me (ideally they'd be posted before registration for classes).

This UWS story about a new housing site is old but really, do we need yet another housing site? I wish the university would just put a proper one together themselves. And yes, I appreciate that the university's IT department sucks ass.

Posting has been light since this term has possibly been the best term ever; little studying, lots of partying.

Of course there have been a few house issues.. When I got home from Seattle there was a distinctive bad smell everywhere. After moving out the garbage and doing the moldy dishes the smell still lingered. I figured it was just because (oddly) Waterloo in general wasn't smelling good but after several days I came to the conclusion there definitely was a smell problem. I then examined the dishes of mouse poison I had laid out earlier in the summer; they were surprisingly low. Upon closer examination there was mouse stuff all our my study. So I got the vacuum out and cleaned it up. I then spent an evening moving everything around trying to find the rotting corpse but I couldn't find it and so the smell has lingered but gradually diminished.

Other house problems include one of the fridges breaking two weeks ago. Fortunately it was only a $85 repair. If you've been keeping track I've thrown out three fridges since moving in here.

Also on the weekend construction started on the basement and one of the pipes burst in the basement and one room flooded. This flooding caused the hot water heater pilot light to go out and so yesterday there was no hot water. Today we were woken up very early with sawing, hammering and drilling. The water is also off again for more plumbing work.
