Welcome to MattGoyer.com. I'll be your Feds Election Pundit for the next three weeks.

Day 1

I was going to vote for Aaron Lee-Wudrick until:

  • His website was 'not found' (though it's online now)
  • My girlfriend said she'd dump me if I voted for him (she hates his column with a passion)
  • His profile didn't mention pro-deregulation as part of his platform

Ah well, this election is still young. Maybe I'll end up voting for him afterall.

Other notes on the election (it's not like I care about these elections because I believe that the effective outcome will be the same regardless of who we elect but what else am I going to write about?):

  • Websites are good but please have them working on the first day of elections (http://www.thefedsparty.com/ is down)
  • Is Rob Robson aware we live in Canada? I worship the USD too, but please. And how could someone lobbying for wireless have such a bad website?
  • Dan needs a platform!
  • Multimedia is such a 1995 word.
  • We already have a nap room it's called the comfy lounge and it's disgusting.
  • On their Feds.ca profiles:
    • Bullet points are good.
    • The less words the better
    • Having a picture with your profile is a good idea

And if I were running my platform would include:

  • A wireless initiative: 100% coverage by the end of my term.
  • Putting prof evaluations online
  • Making course outlines, and exam schedules available for your Quest interview date instead of making them available on the first day of classes.
  • A Tim Hortons in the SLC.
  • Having Ground Zero serve breakfast after Bomber night and on weekends
  • Accountability and accessibility by communicating with students via the web
  • Being able to strike fees online
  • And oh yeah, I want a campus bar. And if the Admin won't give us one I'd rent space in the Plaza and tap some kegs till we had sorted things out.

So I complained about the wireless coverage in MC3022 on uw.mfcf.suggestions and just got an email that someone has been assigned to the problem!

After reading through many of the candidate profiles for the upcoming student election a word I'm reading a lot is communication.

Why doesn't Feds simply use their weblog and have each VP provide us with a quick daily update on what they're doing. It'd take 5 minutes of their time and keep the rest of us informed.

For instance, I find the lack of communication from the Feds to the students over this bar closure issue simply unacceptable. Keeping us up-to-date via their blog would go a long way to alleviating the rumors and speculation now present on campus.
