Please, someone, tell me how an article about a band that played at our campus bar is above the fold first page news!?

What is going on here? For the love of good, just put Aaron Lee Wudrick on the front page. That will at least incite some outrage and get things cooking.

I'd really rip into the rest of the newspaper but it appears that their website is offline.

A line recently added to my resume, 'Named as an inventor on a patent application for a ‘Method and system for identifying high-quality items’'.

Speaking of my resume.. Here is the word doc version. Thanks to Jenny for all her suggestions. If you have any suggestions on how to make me look more qualified then I am please fire away. If you'd like to refute any of the lies please do so privately.

CS492, Assignment #1: 1984: 55 Years Later

That's my first 'essay' in a longtime so go easy on me. But of course I welcome your constructive feedback.

Our next assignment is on the 'hive' and is due Tuesday. My stance will of course be that more technology is of course better.

In fact, I believe CS492 and all the other business/discussiony courses I've taken could use a shot in the arm of technology. Here is what I proposed on our CS492 newsgroup:

Sitting in (an overcrowded) class (of 40+ people) for the last two weeks I couldn't help but think that with the aid of technology that we could make the class experience in a much richer one.

What I envision is that everyone in class has a web connected notebook this would enable:

  • people to add themselves to the discussion queue without putting up their hand
  • students could then see the discussion queue in real time
  • students could then remove themselves from the queue if their point was redundant
  • students could indicate who they were responding to, to allow a more threaded discussion
  • students who didn't feel like speaking could make points in an online discussion room or on a discussion board
  • students could rate people's contribution to the discussion allowing instant feedback
  • being connected to the web would allow students to quickly research their arguments to add weight to the discussion

Yes, some students would IM with other friends outside of class, or surf the web for web for non-class stuff but I think overall technology in this case could alleviate the effects of overcrowding in our class.

But of course we all know this will be a long time coming at Waterloo. So in the mean time I would suggest

  • smaller classes
  • a class room with a more circular layout. I believe there are some rooms on the 4th floor like this

Yes? No?
