Admin shut down the bars at 6pm tonight fearing (as they probably should) the:

Natalie thinks this is 10,000 times worse than the Microsoft thing (remember when MS bought a course at UW?).

It'd be cool if every Canadian university had a UWS like website and then there would be a central site which would aggregate the most important news stories from them all.

I feel very out of touch with what is going on elsewhere at other Canadian universities.

CEO of the Royal Bank:
I think Canada's banking system . . . is among the most innovative and productive of financial services industries anywhere in the world.

Clearly Mr.Nixon has never cashed a USD cheque drawn on an American bank, tried to pay a USD bill, had a cheque bounce,...

The administration of our university has shutdown our student run bars (UWS story):

As of Tuesday, January 20, the serving of alcohol will be prohibited at the two student-owned establishments on campus. The university claims that this is a result of an altercation that occurred on New Year’s Eve on campus. The university claims that this is a result of an altercation that occurred on New Year’s Eve on campus. Well of course I don't understand the whole situation but it seems to me that the Feds need to get control of their own liquor license instead of having to depend on administration. But perhaps that just isn't possible for whatever reason. If that is the case then Feds needs a legal agreement with the administration that would prevent strong arming such as this. Then if the administration does choose to revoke the liquor license it'll be a contract violation and the Feds can sue the administration.

Or Feds could always open an off campus bar...

The other thing I don't understand is how this altercation could have been prevented. The administration seems to allege that if Fed Hall had been properly signing people in that night then everything would have gone smoothly but even if the university administration knows who everyone in the bar is, if a group of people want to fight in the parking lot afterwards a list of signatures isn't going to be much help.

Also, has anyone raised or investigated the privacy issues involved with those little swippers our school is now using?
