Universal's plan involves shipping hundreds of thousands of empty cds - a full 10% of its record catalog - to record stores nationwide. The cds will be placed into store shelves and will appear to be identical to other artist cds, with identical artwork, labels, and liner notes. However, the cds themselves will be empty save for a recorded announcement from Hilary Rosen, president of the RIAA.

Ugh yeah. I guess this father forgot that we don't live in the dark ages any more.

For those un-familiar with the situation the background to the letter is this: Our house has a 52" television and a group of non-occupants regularly watch Star Trek on it. A previous complaint about the situation from me can be found here.

We held a meeting last night to discuss our plan of action. If you have any suggestions we'd welcome them. But of course we find this whole situation rather absurd.
