Our housemate the criminal.

Last night my roommate Jon went out walking at around 2AM because he 'couldn't sleep'. Needless to say he got stopped by the police for matching the description of both a vandal and a flasher. He told them his version of the story, 'I'm neither'. Having failed to produce the necessary identification (a drivers license) he told them where he lived and they told him they might come by and pick him up later and take him down for questioning at the station. That said he walked home only to discover a police cruiser in the driveway aparently to confirm that he wasn't lying about his home address.

Spam wars: We sue the spammers. The spammers sue the list brokers. The owner of the SPAM trade mark sues everyone (and then concedes).

The only party winning in the spam wars are the lawyers!

Read this Wired article Google Yanks Anti-Church Sites. It explains the evils that are the DMCA and Scientology.

The Globe: 'The 13-year-old who died after being struck by a puck at Columbus Blue Jackets game would most likely be alive today if the National Hockey League had adopted the same safety standards as the City of Winnipeg'. (full article)

Last time I went to a game in Winnipeg (during Christmas with John) I didn't see any mesh nettings. Have things changed?

Also in the Globe: Businesses face crackdown on sharing customer secrets:

Federal Privacy Commissioner George Radwanski blasted Air Canada Wednesday for improperly sharing private information about its Aeroplan frequent-flier members, and warned other Canadian companies that he will take a tougher stand on similar issues in the future.

Now that is legislation I approve of.

If you search for 'porn' at Netscape.com I'm the 8th non-sponsored result!

And that is why I use Google (even though they're being strong armed by a cult).

Slashdot: Scientology Uses DMCA to Delist Critic's Website. This is yet another example of why we don't want the Canadian government to adopt DMCA style legislation. This is legislation that will affect *ALL OF US*. You should care.

Random morning timbits.

All the boy's are drooling over the super small Minolta. Puts my beastly Canon S110 to shame.

In addition to C&O 380 and C&O 480 it looks like our school should offer a class on the math that appears in the Simpsons.

The people who are proposing the levy increase in Canada have a bunch of new info posted on their website. The fact sheet is the most interesting though they don't reference their statistics (tsk. tsk). I'll probably return to this later.

Neil has updated his Copy Levy FAQ and I learned that manufactures could avoid the levy on blank medium by shipping songs pre-loaded onto their devices (cause it'd no longer be blank). I was a little puzzled that Apple didn't do this with the iPod (of which a new 10 gig model has just been announced for $499USD (the proposed tariff on that would be $130USD)).
