Michael Eisner's op-ed piece: Abe Lincoln and the internet pirates.

In his piece the 359th richest person in America urges us not to steal. He goes on to talk about how 'these trends can be reversed' with the usual rhetoric of technological solutions to lock down our media. Well Michael, if I had the opportunity to write an op-ed piece for the Financial Times I'd urge you to get out of Disneyland and get over your fear of the Internet and begin to service the millions of potential customers out there who would pay for your content albeit not in some proprietary government legislated format. The real crime here is *your* lack of innovation and willingness. We're 'pirates' simply because there is no other alternative. Please give me that alternative.

Dave has some really good push back on the piece.

For Al (from uw.general):
This week (March 25th-29th) is UW Car-Free Week!
Think Outside The Car - Leave It At Home!

This week is being hosted by RADIUS (Reducing Automobile Dependence In University Students). There will be Information Booths in the Student Life Centre as well as some video presentations and other events. Many service providers will be joining us, including Greyhound, Recycle Cycles, carpooling.ca, and the People's Car Co-op.

RADIUS will also be launching the UW Yellow Bikes program this week. Starting in the Spring Term, you can borrow a Yellow Bike through the Turnkey Desk!

I bought the Queer as Folk DVD for the house yesterday. The place to buy it is at Future Shop for $120 (Thanks to DVD man for the research into prices). Be forewarned that the 'extra features' are kindy of sucky but the 22 episodes that make up season 1 will keep you plenty busy. And here's the best QAF FAQ that I found last night so you can look up all the continuity errors.

And I see that Future Shop is taking pre-orders for the Treo Handspring. It's only $749.99CDN with activiation.

This media whore gets around:
"It will definitely be a topic in the next mayoral election campaign," says local music activist Matt Goyer, "it's on the top of my list of issues right now, even above the new levies on recordable media."

Grrrr.. So Purolator came by at 10:15am yesterday but no one heard them knock so they left a message saying I could pick up my package today. Of course I needed the package yesterday so I called their 888 number to see if the driver could come back, but they couldn't. I then called the local pickup place to see if I could pick up my package earlier than today but no.

I then emailed Ming to see if I could borrow his power cord and I could but once I got to his house I discovered that both his power cord and battery are different than the ones in my model of notebook.

Ah well. I'm back online now.
