I moved the commenting system over to port 80 so you can now read my comments at school on your laptop.

Website: Downhill battle: Music activism

Has a link to Musiclink (aka Fairtunes) with the note:

Needs better implementation and a web redesign.
Fairtunes used to have a less clumsy implementation with way more features but then Musiclink decided to re-write it in PHP and prune off everything that made it great.

Two pages it's time to link to:

I'm also working on a long write up of my reflections on my time at Waterloo.

Does anyone want to buy my CS456 text?

I lied. In addition to the Daily Show we have a daily subscription to the Globe and Mail and a Sunday NY Time's subscription. Anyhow, did you read about our new prime minister today? From A glimpse into Martin the man:
I will tell you there was an earlier time, many years ago, when Sheila made brownies and I must say they did have a strange taste.

This is big news, from Wired, RIAA Loses Key Anti-Piracy Tool :
A federal appeals court on Friday rejected efforts by the recording industry to compel the nation's Internet providers to turn over names of subscribers suspected of illegally swapping music online.

From CNET, Court: RIAA lawsuit strategy illegal:

Under the decision, the RIAA still would be able to seek the identity of file swappers, but would have to file individual "John Doe" lawsuits against the anonymous individuals in order to obtain the identities.

I wonder what law CRIA will use here in Canada to try and unmask the identities of Canadian uploaders.

Update: CNET Faq on this all.

We got a note yesterday:
Greetings Residents of 161 Erb St

I just want to send out a big thanks to you guys. You've been a great help to me over the Fall school term, and I can't possibly thank you enough.

If you're wondering to what I'm referring, I am of course talking about how you freely broadcast internet access to your surrounding area, waiting to be tapped into by anyone who has a wireless connection.

So, have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or what have you.

Anyway, thanks again,
- Your friendly neighbor

Natalie thinks he's mocking us for having an open wireless net. I don't think he is. Anyhow, we could have changed his resume.

UPDATE: So I found this note on my desk and Kev just told me that he found it in the printer yesterday and then moved it to the desk. Too funny!

Last night I wrote my last exam ever.

I have now hopefully completed the degree requirements for an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics with a major in Computer Science.

Yes, I'm freaking out.
