No tax refund for me. Instead I'm paying more in taxes ($10k) than it costs to go to school for a year ($7k). But you won't catch me complaining, because I realize that I owe a debt to society and I am more than willing to pay more than my fair share (while I sit here unemployed).

A remark on our regular bar outing Wednesday night: Only in Waterloo will you find a bar playing Star Trek instead of 'the game' on the big screen TV.

CS students are done school before everyone else but oddly enough our exams are scheduled last. Why we need so much time to study for exams is beyond me. So instead of studying we drink, sleep, and watch TV. Yesterday we watched the first three episodes of Six Feet Under which appears to be an excellent 'TV show' on par with The Sopranos. Though I feel that Six Feet Under is more accessible to people like my parents who find The Sopranos a little too gruesome.

We also watched Roger and Me which lead to us spending most of the second and third period of the Maple Leafs game debating some of the issues raised in the documentary as well as Air Canada's demise.

So I went to a second talk by Simon Singh. The second one was on the 'Mathematics of Chance' and was sponsored by the Perimeter Institute for Theortical Physics and it was also a very accessible lecture. However, I think he did a good job of highlighting the importance of everyone (i.e. lawyers, doctors, you, me,...) understanding basic probability theory.

Waterloo has been shut down by an ice storm (Environment Canada weather warning). This should make Benny happy. Every day he prays for an ice storm/snow storm/explosion in the MC/... Too bad this happened on a day when we don't have either classes or exams :).

The Tragically Hip, Something's On:

outside there's hectic action
the ice is covering the trees
and one of em's interconnecting
with my chevrolet caprice
