Oh yeah I braved the mall today. Picked up a present for Natalie (even though she is going to LOTR without me. (In fact all my friends have ditched me and I've resigned to seeing it on DVD). She suggested we could go see that Gangs of New York movie instead! For someone who reads such high brow books she certainly has a low brow taste in movies.. Or maybe she just wants a little scruffy Leo action which is even more worrisome) and scored a T-Fal Avante Deluxe toaster (by trading in the hand blender I got) for the Hotel. No more getting my bagel stuck in our shitty ass toaster.

And I think the Globe and Mail is missing a golden opportunity by not having movie, book, and show reviews online. I don't want the rational behind not having them online. I know the same can be said for their habit of taking the rest of their stories offline after 7 days. If it's a harddrive space issue then I'm sure my $120/year subscription fee could more than cover the hard drive space.

It's almost as irrational as our 20 meg quota at school.

After reading Adam Barr's comment on slashdot about The myth of Waterloo way back in August I knew that I had to pick up his book Proudly Serving My Corporate Masters so I added it to my Amazon Wishlist even though the reviews are only lukewarm. Dismayed that I didn't get it for Christmas I checked out his website last night and found that he links to the entire text of the book so last night I started reading about the Microsoft interview process and promptly fired an email over to John who wrote his first ever Joel-style long article about interviews, life and their relation to randomness.

I find it hard to believe that they use such a seat of the pants approach to hiring and haven't devised something at least a little more scientific but it's hard to argue with what appears to be a successful end result.

The bottom line is that you should read the first 40 pages if you've ever interviewed or dreamed of interviewing with Microsoft.
