This is all old news but I can't let this quote slip past, from the Globe: Groups at odds over hidden copyright fees:
In an interview, David Basskin, director of the CPCC, described the attack on the copyright levy as "hypocritical" and "disingenuous." Products covered by the levy are clearly used to copy music, he said. (emphasis added)

They are used to copy music but clearly, Basskin is forgetting Part VIII of the Canadian Copyright Act entitled Private Copying which allows consumers to make duplications of their own music for their own use and which if this tax tariff is implemented for MP3 players then I will be paying twice for my music licenses. Ridiculous.

I hate the dentist, who doesn't? (Apologies in advance to all the my readers who are dentists) But seeing as I'm heading home for Christmas holidays I thought I'd better visit because I didn't want to lie to my mother about my dentist attendance.

I've also seen a fair number of those oral hygienist commercials during my 2 hour stretch of being a couch potato everyday so I finally got up the courage to get in the car and find my dentist. Normal people would call their dentist but it's been (2) years since I've been and I of course couldn't remember which dentist I had been to but I knew approximately where it was in Waterloo. Fortunately we live in a small town and I found the place and booked an appointment. Turns out I was 'lucky' and they had an opening at 8:30.

So today, after a week of flossing, I went to the dentist where I had a grand old (and expensive) time.

I of course expected the typical lecture about my lack of oral maintenance but the hygienist let my bloody gums speak for themselves. But hey, no cavities!

(Cue the comment from my mom about my needing to look after my teeth because at her age...)

Rumor has it (though the co-chair is probably a good source) CUTC will have wireless Internet access this year.

Matt 2, Squirrel 0

With the help of my trusty assistant Anne we used our allegedly 72 year old electrician's ladder to scale up to the roof today. This required not only a lot of upper body strength (to extend and maneouver the ladder) but I also had to overcome my fear of heights. Once up there I patched up the two squirrel holes and covered the patches with some of that hexagonal galvanized wire mesh I bought yesterday (I have lots left over if you need some).

Let's hope:

  1. We didn't trap the squirrels in there (the reports are that there sounds like two up there)
  2. That there isn't a third entrance that we don't know about

A funny quote from my CS class this term was when the prof was going over the midterm in class. A student asks 'Can you derive it on the board?' and the professor responds 'I didn't have to take the exam you know'.

Chris: Even Matt Goyer isn't that popular... or is he?

My theory is Matt Goyer bought Succaland in order to steal the limelight. Now Matt's is the blog to visit
Nick hasn't nicknamed me MG Hustle for nothing.. (Though I do believe that Nick is terrorizing me by supporting the squirrel infiltration of my attic)

But little does Chris realize how much I yearn for a simple discrete Matt link on his blogroll/links section. Everyday I see him looking at his stats and then he clicks through to visit here and I just can't help but think how much easier life would be if I was honored with my own link over at the Big Rant.

In other blog gossip news I hear maeveiscool.com will be launching in the new year!

And for the record I don't even know why so many of you people read this, but thanks! It's a great tool for procrastinating when I should be learning about fourier transforms..

I heard a rumor from our spy at Queen's that our 'rich' WPIRG will be giving some of the less rich PIRGs, such as Queen's, money. Any truth to this rumor?

...And yes your WPIRG fee is refundable. But of course we're all too lazy to find their office for the $4.75 refund.

In the Globe's article U.S. fears change in marijuana laws, American drug czar, John Walters is quoted as saying:
But is it is my job to protect Americans from dangerous threats, and right now Canada is a dangerous staging area for some of the most potent and dangerous marijuana at a time when marijuana is the single biggest source of dependency-production in the United States. (emphasis added)

Too funny. What about all those other dependency products such as cigarettes, alcohol, gambling, guns, SUV's and fatty foods that are certainly more 'dangerous' than an innocent little spliff smuggled in from Canada?
