In its recommendation that: 'marijuana use should be legalized for adults'.

I had a dream last night that I was hanging out with George Bush at the White House (he let me sleep over in one of the guest rooms) and that he really was a nice guy; just a little out of touch with reality.

I hear that Kev tired to win me this big fish at the Seattle Hip show. It would have made a very nice addition to our front yard.

..Yes, I'm still looking for some big lawn art if you ever stumble upon some or know of an artist who works with metal/fibreglass/cement..

Wired: MS Pushes New Tablet on Students

Why when students can type faster than we can write? I don't know what the big deal is. I certainly won't be buying one of these.

Can you hear the desperation in my voice in those last two posts? The Watchmen were playing 2 minutes from my house to a small unappreciative crowd, how could I not go!?

So I head down to the Rec Centre at 9pm knowing The Watchmen will hit the stage around 10:30pm and here are the strategies I employed (in order):

  1. Find a frosh leader we know: I got in touch with one and all they could provide me with was times for the show and a lay of the land heads up
  2. The front door: Maybe I'd know somebody working the door. Turns out I didn't. It was some Engineering guy who told me there was no way I was getting in there and that I 'had no right to be here'. I'm like cool, I'll just chill here in the lobby and see what happens, but he would have none of that. I'd have to leave the property, he was pretty insistent about that. I should have pointed out that I just paid my property tax bill that morning and that I probably did have a right to be there but he was an ass so I spared him the chit-chat.
  3. Chatting up the pretty girls: They gave me the low down on badges, name tags, shirts and no they wouldn't loan me their shirts and tags.
  4. Sneak in the back-door: It wasn't really the back but instead was where all the smokers were. There were 10 people guarding these doors on two hour shifts with a supervisor and they told me there was no way I was getting in either. Now here you could actually hear pretty well even though it was outside so I chilled here till 9:30 chatting people up and they really weren't sympathetic about my desire to see The Watchmen. I have a hard time believing how un-understanding they were. What's it to them if *1* non-frosh enjoys the show?
  5. Try and contact only frosh I know. Dinah, where were you in my time of need? :)
  6. Acquire cash: Good old RBC helped me out here
  7. Bribe kids at SLC: A wallet full of cash did not entice even a single frosh kiddie to part with their red wrist band even though I had it on good authority that they could get them replaced for only $5 if they 'lost them'. Of course this strategy was a little dicey since the place was crawling with Leaders.
  8. Call Mark: Who knows, maybe he could make a call to the right people and all would be good, but he wasn't home and probably doesn't wield the necessary influence here any more :)
  9. Talk to the band: As I was scoping out the loading area wondering if there was a more friendly smoking area who might let me in I ran into Daniel Greaves none other than lead singer for The Watchmen getting something from his mini-van. It went something like this:

Matt: I'm dying to see the show tonight but they won't let me in.
Daniel (to the security guys): Can we let this guy in?
Security guys: We're out of passes, but if you want to we can.

And with that I was in and ushered to the 'with the band' section (consisting of 2 other people) of the arena and enjoyed a great 1.5 hour show and saw the crowd quickly dwindle down to less than a 100 people. I know this is 'the frosh's night' and all but we should at least give the band a good crowd to keep em going! Oh well instead we gave a bunch of 2nd years some power and wield it they did.

After the show I was anxious to run into any of the 15 people who flat out refused to let me in early but I (finally) bought The Watchmen's double CD instead, it was only $15 too.

Adventure aside, it was great to see The Watchmen headlining a show and I find it a little funny I've never seen them in Winnipeg.

Side note to DC: Grindig opened the show but I wasn't able to catch em.
