It's really too bad (okay, it really isn't but bear with me) that I'm going to England or else this would be the best week ever to satisfy my inner lesbian.

First we had Tegan and Sara tonight, then Melissa Ferrick is playing on the 22th, and Ani is on the 27th!

So I stole my best friend's girlfriend, Jen, and ran off to Hamilton to the Tegan and Sara show at The Underground tonight (my nasty cold and blizzard be damned!).

Surprisingly there were not that many people there (75?), but those who were there were VERY tall (Is there some correlation between sexual orientation and height?). Regardless, the show was pretty good.

Right before coming on stage some friend of T&S's went and played two songs, one of his own, and a T&S cover. You could just see T&S hiding in the back curtains with their video camera grinning away as this guy covered their tune. They then took the stage and banged off 3 songs off their new album before loosening up and getting into their regular pattern of back and forth banter.

Half way through the show we found out it was the bassist's birthday so cakes and balloons were brought on stage and everyone sang happy birthday. They then proceeded to cut the cake and started passing cake through the crowd. Unfortunately this interrupted Sara? starting to tell a story about the Winnipeg show. Several times throughout the night she would try and pick it up but we never heard it. But she did mention that the Hamilton crowd (as small as it was) was better than the Winnipeg one (take that Jam!).

I must admit it was a little odd seeing T&S backed by a bassist and a drummer. Like some Ani fans, I miss the girl and guitar bit (though I prefer Melissa Ferrick with her drummer..)

As usual, the vast majority of the crowd were female (and they certainly enjoyed making out with whomever was convenient) and it certainly felt like Jen and I were the only straight people there :).

Anyhow, anyone up for catching T&S play Monday night in London?
