Seattle Weekly, Investing for Change:
I'd become wealthy at Microsoft. After eight years with the company, I left with about $5 million. What other baggage might I be carrying?

I had known for some time that the investments I'd been making with my windfall were supporting corporations whose harmful practices conflicted with my values. Why would I allow my investments to operate with a different set of values than I demand of family, friends, and colleagues? Why is it acceptable for me to buy from and invest in corporations that exploit and harm people?

I haven't read this yet but it certainly looks to be a thought provoking article, especially as many of us have the good fortune of working at well paying jobs though unfortunately I doubt I'll leave Microsoft after eight years with $5 million :).

MSNBC, Google partying, but not quite like it's '99:

The first company to rent out this entire ski resort, arguably Lake Tahoe's most expensive and exclusive, didn't even exist a decade ago.

[cut]

The resort remained open to the public, but with Google taking every available hotel room in the area, there were few non-Googlers in the crowd. In addition to room and board, the company paid for skiing, snowboarding, tubing and ice skating.

Heh.

Joe Wilcox, Apple Feel-Good Marketing:
Apple is a master of feel-good marketing, as in giving people good reason to feel good about the company and its products.

Something to check out when I have a free moment (which I don't believe exist anymore), Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (via Ed It scans every version of Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 2003 (sorry, not Windows 9X/Me), and also looks for security problems in Microsoft client and server programs, including Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, Exchange Server, and IIS. You can also scan multiple computers over a network. It does a much more thorough job than Windows Update — instead of just looking for patches, it also examines your system configuration for common security weaknesses, such as easy-to-crack weak passwords or too many file shares.

Seattle PI, Top spots troopers spring the trap on speeders:
Soaring 2,500 feet above Interstate 5, Trooper Scott Sborov dipped the left wing of the Cessna 182 plane and scanned the freeway for scofflaws.

And here is an interactive map showing you were you can can't speed.

Not that you can speed in Washington since everyone drives 65mph and there is no 'fast lane'.

We now have a new tomato/server! Hopefully this means way less outages.
