Yay New York City!

I flew in Friday evening to La Guardia and cabbed over to the Central Park New York Hotel, a three star hotel, that I found for $100+tax on Priceline, and met Jody who would be my roommate for the weekend. We then headed off to Hell's Kitchen for a dinner at 44X (located at 44 & 10th). Dinner was decent, though not too special, but of course, pricey. Before heading out on the town we pre-drank at Ben's hotel in order to reduce the number of $10+ drinks we would be consuming later in the night. We started out at the Coral Room which featured large fish tanks featuring not only fish, plants and reefs, but also a mermaid frolicking around. Next stop was Avalon, an old church converted into a three floor, multi room dance club. Cover was only $30 :). We partied there until the wee wee hours of the morning.

Saturday we had to move over to the four star Intercontinental Barclay (only $340 on Hotwire. ...Our $300 bid for any star, any area in NYC was rejected by Priceline!) and then we got off to a slow start with a late brunch in Chelsea. After brunch we decided to walk across the Broolyn bridge starting in Brooklyn. Of course the minute we got on the bridge it started to not rain, but pour. As you can see from the photo, we had only one umbrella for the six of us. After crossing we were completely soaked and headed home for a much needed nap.

Later we ate dinner at a fabuluous Mexican place in the East Village which was fairly busy when we arrived but got very busy after we sat down. For fun we headed up to a house party (well really it was a loft space in an old fire hall) in Harleem thrown by some ex-Seattlites associated with 'The Studio'. Next stop was the Brite Bar for cocktails followed by Crobar where we ended the night, well really it was morning by the time we left.

Sunday I tagged along for some shopping at DKNY and Diesel but it wasn't long before we were at JFK heading back to Seattle on Delta which as Expedia predicted was not on time. In fact they were no were close to on time.

Today, as we sat contemplating living room killer apps, one of my Media Center designer friends pointed me to the webzine (?), CBC Radio 3, and we marvelled at the beauty of their design and their excellent choice of content. With a little bit of work it could easily be transformed into a very nice 10' application. In fact it is one of the first 2' sites that I've seen that should absolutely have a 10' version. Why? The photography with music with writing just blends so nicely together and is just suited for consuming on a Sunday afternoon from the couch.
