Many people have complained that they are restricted to buying Windows Media Centers from a small subset of manufacturers. Soon that is going to change! From Joe Wilcox's post from the WWPC:
The System Builder program means availability of "white box," or no-name brand, Media Center PCs. The logo program is a way of making sure third-party products would work with Media Center. The System Builder program launches in September, with Microsoft expecting the first PCs shipping in October.

More from the Register, Nvidia preps Media Center PC bundles:

Nvidia is pitching system builders keen to move into the Media Center PC market with a series of bundles designed to make knocking out MCPCs more straightforward.

Also at CRN, Microsoft To Roll Out Windows Media Center OS To System Builders:

By offering the platform to the white-box channel, the Redmond, Wash., software giant is hoping that system builders design innovative, home media systems in time for the holiday season.

And comments from Will Poole, our VP:

And what this means is the system builders can now ship this in 13 geographies. It means that we're going to have a partner support kit available. We're working very closely with ATI and NVIDIA to create a single kit that's going to give you what you need in terms of a tuner card, the right graphics card, a remote control, IR receiver, everything you need to put together a Media Center PC in the specific configurations that your customers want. And, we're going to create this new design for Window XP Media Center Edition logo program so you know what products are certified to work in those Media Center configurations.
