We left Friday at the crack of dawn and drove and drove and drove till we hit Manhattan around 4pm where we encountered lots of traffic and lots of crazy drivers. Not knowing exactly where the hotel was John attempted to 'circle the block' (no easy task) while I set out on foot to find it and its parking lot. As it turns out the parking was several blocks from the actual hotel and cost $25USD/day.

While the lobby of the Habitat Hotel is edgy their rooms are far from spacious at $100USD/night (that's right, the 'double' room is two single beds wide) but we did manage.

So after arriving we headed further downtown to checkout the The Tragically Hip at Irving Plaza. And to our surprise even though we weren't first in line we had front row standing room! I took a a bunch of pictures but there's only a few good ones. Jen also managed to grab not the setlist but lyrics to Something On. How Gord is supposed to read his hand writing when it's pasted to the floor and he's gyrating about is beyond me.

The next day we did central park, got some veggie food, saw what little there was left of the WTC, the statue of liberty from afar (then sat around), then checked on the Flatiron (which is a word none of us know how to pronounce and stumbled upon the dyke march quite by accident. Famous sighting of the day was Miranda from Sex and the City at central park with her kids.

Sunday we checked out the NYC Pride Parade (photos). Big sightings at Pride where Hilary Clinton (we were a foot from her (no photo though)) and Ben, Emmett, Mel, and Lindsay from QAF. After exhausting ourselves checking out absolutely no naked people (New York pride is so much tamer than Toronto's) we were able to score some tickets to RENT on Broadway (actually it was on 41st).

And Monday we drove home, got 'randomly selected by the computer' for a search and John got us lost getting from Niagara to Waterloo (go figure).

Some questions left after visiting:

  • Where do people shop since there are no grocery stores?
  • Is there only one gas station in Manhattan?

(Full photo album).

Edie Carey posted something on our website!

While you're waiting for me to detail our NYC adventures (which will have to wait till after work, then hockey, then dinner (because while Transpose sometimes pays me to blog I think they'd question paying me to blog about my vacation)) (or you can read John's abridged version) go bid on this weeks batch of CDs because if you don't I'll know that you don't love me. And really folks, these are like *free* CDs. What more could you want?
