I heard about some problems with the HP z545 Digital Entertainment Center and thought I'd pass the solutions on to you:
Overheating DVD drive. It looks like the z545 has problems with the DVD drive overheating if you do not have enough clearance between the case and your cabinet (if it's in one).
- Symptoms: DVD playback is fine for 20-30 minutes, and then starts stuttering (audio and video freeze for about 2 seconds) every minute or so.
- Solution: Move the unit out of the cabinet to prevent overheating.
Deinterlacing “combing” artifacts: It appears that the z545 is not shipping with the best possible DVD decoder.
- Symptoms: 'Combing' lines that appear horizontally across the image.
- Solution: Upgrade from WinDVD SE 4 to NVIDIA's latest DVD decoder.
